The Zerg race seems to only excel in reproductive capabilities.
Could this staff possibly have a sterilization effect—point at someone, and they’re rendered infertile?
If that’s the case, in any world with palace intrigue, she’d definitely have to be the Empress Dowager.
Niohuru Xiaowei is ready and waiting.
Meanwhile, Ling Wanbai was asking Little Nailuo, Li Luoyi, about the aftermath.
Little Nailuo checked the surveillance feed in the space and said softly to Ling Wanbai, "The original host has regained consciousness. Though it’s unclear why she’s on Novia Planet, she’s already returned."
This turn of events meant Ling Wanbai and Little Wei had helped Li Luoyi, and it was fortunate they’d acted first. If things had escalated to the point where Dean Li found out, the political landscape of the Federation could have shifted in subtle ways.
"That’s good then. By the way, have you heard of this staff before?" Ling Wanbai gazed at the distant staff floating in space, its size unchanged.
"I’d guess it’s either called Frost Breath or its original name, the Frost Staff. Which do you think sounds better, sis?" Little Nailuo suddenly perked up.
Ling Wanbai: ?
Did she think Ling Wanbai didn’t know about the game Honor of Kings? Those were literally in-game item names.
"I don’t have time for jokes," Ling Wanbai said, rubbing her face in exasperation.
"Aw, well, I don’t actually know. But it’s clear this staff has huge potential. Sis, do you think it could be a god’s weapon?"
Ling Wanbai was even more speechless.
"That’s impossible. Which god uses a staff?"
Gods are all mature adults—who’d have such a burning chuunibyou spirit? Besides, most gods have lived for centuries. A staff?
A gun would be way cooler.
"Then what’s your weapon, Si-jie?"
"I’m an archer," Ling Wanbai blurted out before catching herself, a flicker of annoyance crossing her face. She quickly corrected, "My weapon is a bow."
The same one Yuan Qiaoqiao had used before, though Ling Wanbai’s arrows were gold and silver, and their power far surpassed Yuan Qiaoqiao’s by several times.
Little Nailuo, however, started muttering to herself, "Si-jie, if Hou Yi duos with Yao, they’d probably feed hard."
Ling Wanbai: ?
"I’m trying to have a serious conversation, and you’re stuck on games?"
Little Nailuo grinned sheepishly. "Well, sis, I saw the game on your system console and couldn’t resist."
She was genuinely envious.
Ugh, the perks at Voidleap Corp were too good—playing games during work, snacking on melon seeds, even ordering takeout!
Damn it.
Her previous life had been way too stifling.
“Oh right! Now I remember—even though Little Wei is holding a staff, she’s more like a Cai Wenji!” Little Nailuo clapped her hands excitedly.
Hou Yi and Cai Wenji actually pair pretty well.
"Just keep playing your game. Did you find the organization?"
"Yeah, but their setup is different from Voidleap’s—it’s all scattered. It’ll take some time to track down Li Luoyi’s system."
"Open my messaging app and contact someone named Li Xiaozhao. Tell her to escalate this. Be polite—she’s the manager of the System Department, mainly overseeing system evaluations, but she handles miscellaneous issues too."
"Wait, really? But her profile picture looks so young." Little Nailuo tugged at her hair, staring at the smiling girl in the photo.
"She is young, just in her early twenties," Ling Wanbai said with a faint smile.
Little Nailuo gave an "OK" and hurriedly reached out to the company bigwig.
"By the way, Si-jie, won’t they be mad if they find out you went to a mission world?" Little Nailuo asked nervously.
Big corporate bosses were probably terrifying.
Ugh, what if she got punished later for aiding and abetting (Si and Little Wei)? Turned into a corporate punching bag?
So scary qaq.
"They already know."
If Little Nailuo were still working at her old organization, she’d have flipped out by now.
What kind of cheat code was this? Absolutely no respect for rules.
But now that she thought about it… this was actually pretty nice. At least the atmosphere was relaxed.
"Of course they know."
Ling Wanbai was both amused and exasperated. If they hadn’t known, she wouldn’t have dared come to this world in the first place.
But Li Luoyi had malicious intentions, and her company was shady.
If others weren’t playing fair, why should she hold back?
Little Nailuo didn’t reply, focusing on reporting to Li Xiaozhao instead.
Meanwhile, the staff finally stopped its rampage. It seemed to spin once before veering away, heading deeper into space instead.
Awakened. Hunting season.
Little Wei could almost see a glaring red light spiraling around the staff.
This wasn’t just running away from home—it was a runaway train that four oxen couldn’t drag back.
"Big Orange, should we follow? My weapon’s having a seizure."
Little Wei looked worried.
"Let’s go. We’ve got enough food and nutrients to last a week here anyway," Ling Wanbai said nonchalantly.
This was a good opportunity—it’d boost Little Wei’s strength, ensuring an easy win in the next two worlds and giving her an edge in future competitions.
Rewards were rewards—the more, the better.
"A week? It can’t possibly go that crazy, right?" Little Wei muttered, already stressing.
Missing classes for a whole week…
Would they…
get expelled?
And what if people thought she’d eloped with Ling Wanbai? How would she explain that to Dean Li?
"If we’re gone for a week, how do we explain it to Dean Li?" Little Wei fretted, rushing up to Ling Wanbai.
"Easy. We were busy making babies—who has time for class?"
Little Wei frowned, side-eyeing Ling Wanbai.
What kind of beast was this?
"I’m serious," Little Wei grumbled.
Ling Wanbai wrapped an arm around her slender waist, kissing the corner of her lips, her voice low and teasing.
"So am I. I want a child of our own."
Her breath against Little Wei’s ear sent shivers down her spine, raising tiny goosebumps.
"Da-me (No way)." Little Wei wasn’t about to let anything happen on the spacecraft.
"Then we’ll talk at home," Ling Wanbai said.
Little Wei: …
If she’d known this world would be like this, she’d have rather rotted in her mother’s womb at birth.
"You’re… too much." Little Wei gritted her teeth, itching to bite Ling Wanbai’s face.
Ugh, would it kill this woman to act normal for once?
