Old Master Su fell into silence.
It was all his fault.
He had fallen into a trap and been too weak—otherwise, his eldest son wouldn’t have died, and his daughter, Hua'er, wouldn’t have been abducted, only found and brought back when she was sixteen.
Even now,
many still coveted the position of CEO at Su Corporation. They all wanted Hua'er dead so they could take her place.
If not for Hua'er's formidable abilities, she would have already been killed by them.
Now, even when it came to marriage, Hua'er had to weigh every consideration.
Old Master Su suppressed the grief in his eyes.
A car pulled into Night Garden.
After stepping out of the vehicle, Lin Xuan carried Su Hua into the living room.
A servant greeted respectfully, "Young Master Lin."
"Hmm," Lin Xuan acknowledged casually.
It didn’t take long before he spotted Old Master Su sitting on the sofa.
"Grandfather," Lin Xuan called out.
"Good, good," Old Master Su replied with a kind nod.
His gaze settled on Su Hua in Lin Xuan's arms, and he asked with concern, "Xiao Xuan, what’s wrong with Hua'er?"
"She had an episode today," Lin Xuan explained. "She only fell asleep half an hour ago. Grandfather, I’ll take Hua Bao to rest first."
"Alright," Old Master Su nodded.
Lin Xuan returned to the bedroom, closed the door, and gently laid Su Hua on the bed.
After tucking her in, he prepared to go downstairs to attend to Old Master Su.
But as he turned to leave, Su Hua, still deep in sleep, seemed to sense his departure. She grabbed his wrist and pulled him down onto her, then wrapped herself around him like an octopus.
"Little bed slave, don’t go," she murmured.
Lin Xuan managed to pry one of her arms loose, but she immediately latched onto him again, refusing to let go.
It seemed he wouldn’t be going anywhere tonight.
Resigned, Lin Xuan lay down beside her.
After learning about Su Hua's episode, Old Master Su was about to call Jiang Qing when she arrived, holding Su Hua's phone.
Su Hua had left her phone at the hotel, and Jiang Qing had come specifically to return it.
"Chairman," Jiang Qing greeted respectfully.
"Why did Hua Bao suddenly have an episode?" Old Master Su frowned.
Jiang Qing hesitated.
She couldn’t tell him about the couple from earlier.
If the Chairman grew suspicious and investigated, he would uncover how fiercely Young Master Lin had once resisted Su Hua—how she had even been injured because of him.
She couldn’t risk tarnishing Lin Xuan’s image in the Chairman’s eyes.
"Chairman, nothing unusual happened today. The episode came without warning while Su Hua was on her way to a business meeting," Jiang Qing answered dutifully.
Old Master Su frowned. "Without warning?"
"Yes," Jiang Qing nodded. "It’s been months since her last episode. You know they sometimes happen unpredictably. This was likely the same."
Old Master Su didn’t doubt her words—Jiang Qing had no reason to lie.
"Chairman," Jiang Qing continued, "you don’t need to worry. Su Hua should be fine now. You know how Young Master Lin’s presence stabilizes her emotions."
"Hmm," Old Master Su acknowledged, though unease still gnawed at him.
"Secretary Jiang, keep searching for someone who can cure Hua'er’s condition," he said, a sense of helplessness creeping into his voice.
Finding a cure for Hua'er was easier said than done.
For years, he had scoured the world for renowned doctors, yet none had been able to help her.
"Chairman, rest assured. I’ve already found someone—he’s currently researching a treatment for Su Hua," Jiang Qing replied.
For some reason, she had a feeling that Young Master Lin might be the one to heal Su Hua.
"Who?" Old Master Su asked.
"The Golden Dragon Gang’s Dr. Free Spirit," Jiang Qing answered.
Old Master Su’s eyes lit up. "Secretary Jiang, you’ve contacted him?"
This man’s reputation was legendary among the elite.
Rumors claimed his medical skills were so extraordinary he could revive the recently deceased.
Old Master Su had dismissed such tales as nonsense—bringing the dead back to life?
Preposterous.
Yet despite his skepticism, he had still sought out Dr. Free Spirit, desperate for any glimmer of hope.
But the Golden Dragon Gang had refused, stating the doctor wasn’t accepting patients.
Jiang Qing nodded. "I reached out a while ago. He said Su Hua’s condition is psychological—he needs time to study a treatment plan. Chairman, you can trust him."
Her words doused Old Master Su’s hope like cold water.
It seemed even Dr. Free Spirit was at a loss.
How could Hua'er ever recover?
If this continued, it would drain her completely.
"Are you sure he’s not just stringing us along?" Old Master Su pressed.
Jiang Qing assured him, "Absolutely not! He’ll do everything he can to devise a cure."
After all, Dr. Free Spirit was none other than Young Master Lin—how could he not give it his all?
Still doubtful, Old Master Su sighed.
But waiting was his only option.
"Secretary Jiang," he rose from the sofa, "I’ll return to the estate. If anything happens with Hua'er, notify me immediately."
"Yes," Jiang Qing replied dutifully.
Old Master Su departed.
After handing the phone to Butler Wang, Jiang Qing also headed home.
Despite visiting the hospital for treatment, the beating she’d taken from Su Hua still left her aching. She needed rest.
At 1 a.m., Su Hua finally released her grip on Lin Xuan.
Worried about her health, Lin Xuan needed to understand more about her episode.
This one had been unusually severe—he suspected the couple’s conversation wasn’t the only trigger. He had to find out if there was more.
Lin Xuan called Jiang Qing.
Jolted from her dreams, Jiang Qing cursed, "Damn it, who the hell is calling at this hour? Don’t you know people need sleep?"
Who dared disturb her at this ungodly hour?
If they didn’t need rest, she certainly did!
Her first thought was that Su Hua had relapsed—but she should still be unconscious. So this call couldn’t be from her.
And if it wasn’t Su Hua, she had no reason to hold back.
Without checking the caller ID, Jiang Qing answered and snapped, "Do you have nothing better to do than call me in the middle of the night? Ruining someone’s sleep is a sin! If you’re bored, go run ten kilometers!"
