I Am Not an Ordinary Person

The two of them quickly ordered eight dishes. The waiter collected the menu and turned to leave.

The restaurant had only eight tables in total, and an old-fashioned gramophone played soothing light music.

The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. None of the diners spoke loudly, making it a very comfortable place to eat.

After ordering, Li Yuanying remained seated beside Su Yang without moving.

Since she had no intention of returning to her own seat, Su Yang didn’t ask.

While they waited, Li Yuanying asked, “Su Yang, what time are we leaving for Switzerland tomorrow?”

“I checked earlier. There are tickets for nine and ten in the morning. How about we leave at ten?”

Li Yuanying nodded. “Sure. You decide—I’m fine with anything.”

“Then ten it is. It’ll take about three and a half hours to get there from Paris, so we should arrive in Switzerland around one or two. We can have lunch after we get there.”

Just then, an empty taxi pulled up.

The two of them opened the door and sat in the back.

“Driver?” The man in the front seat turned his head, looking confused.

“Does it? Haha. There are several floating bars along the Seine. Which one do you want to go to?”

The driver turned around and pressed down on the accelerator. The taxi quickly disappeared into the distance.

Fifteen minutes later, the driver brought them to the Seine in Paris’s 1st arrondissement.

The Seine was considered the mother river of Paris. It stretched for 776 kilometers in total, while the section running through the city was 12.8 kilometers long and between thirty and two hundred meters wide.

At night, the river reflected the century-old Haussmannian buildings lining both banks. Cruise boats passed by from time to time.

After driving along the river for several minutes, the taxi stopped. The driver pointed toward a pier about a dozen meters ahead and said, “Handsome, beautiful, it’s right there. See that boat on the river?”

Su Yang looked down the road. In the distance, a small, brightly lit cruise boat floated by the riverbank. He smiled. “I see it. Thanks, driver.”

After paying the fare, the two of them got out and walked toward the pier. The closer they came to the river, the louder the music grew.

There was more than just a bar boat here. A row of low buildings stood along the riverbank as well, all of them bars—music bars, live houses, and quieter lounge bars.

The music playing at that moment came from singers performing outside one of the music bars.

“It’s pretty lively,” Su Yang said as they walked.

“Yeah. I really like this kind of atmosphere. It’s so romantic.”

“Come on, let’s go check out how that riverboat bar operates first.”

As they spoke, the two of them made their way to the cruise ship moored on the river. Both sides of the vessel were open, and it wasn’t particularly large—just three decks in total. From the shore, they could see everything happening aboard.

The ship was already nearly full, with guests relaxing as they drank and chatted.

Su Yang tilted his head toward the boarding area, where a young man in a uniform was chatting with a girl.

“Hey, he’s already flirting with her,” Su Yang remarked as he walked over and called out, “Hello, handsome!”

At the sound of his voice, the young man immediately turned around. “Hello. Is there something I can help you with?”

“This is the bar boat, right?”

“That’s right.”

“Are there any seats left?”

“Right now? I don’t think so. Our bar boat is packed every night.”

“None at all? There are only two of us. Could you ask around for us?”

“Please wait a moment.”

The young man pulled out a walkie-talkie and made an inquiry. A few dozen seconds later, he turned to Su Yang.

“Sorry, sir. There really aren’t any seats left.”

“Damn.”

“What’s wrong, Su Yang?” Li Yuanying asked as she caught up with them.

“They said there are no seats left.”

“Not even a single table?”

“No, it’s completely full.”

“What should we do, then? Are there any other bar boats?”

Su Yang turned to the young man. “Hey, do you know if there are any other bar boats like this nearby?”

“There is one a few hundred meters away called the Pirate Tavern. But it’s different from ours. It mainly caters to couples and offers private, intimate boats. Each boat comes with one or two dedicated servers who look after you for the entire trip.”

“Of course, that kind of service costs more. Since you two are a couple, it might be perfect for you to try.”
