What Do You Want Being So Close to Me

Seeing the shapely leg kicking toward his face, Su Yang didn’t think this was a joke.

With no time to react, in that split second, his pupils contracted, his body tensed, and he barely managed to tilt his head to dodge Xu Zilin’s incoming kick.

But he only avoided the first one. As he tried to step back, a second kick came flying straight at his chest.

Bam—

Su Yang took the full force of the black-stockinged leg to his chest, stumbling back two or three steps before regaining his balance.

He stared at Xu Zilin on the bed in disbelief.

Everything had happened too suddenly. Su Yang never expected things to unfold this way.

He had thought Xu Zilin would open her eyes, pull him close, and then unleash a storm of passion...

But instead, it was like she had become a completely different person—transforming from a cheerful, lively girl into a cold, ruthless expert.

Though he hadn’t dodged, the kick wasn’t strong enough to hurt him.

Even without his healing ability, his current 92-point physique meant the impact was negligible.

Still, the fact that she had knocked him back a few steps proved Xu Zilin wasn’t an ordinary girl. Based on his own combat power, she had to be at least a 75.

Though shocked, Su Yang kept his expression neutral.

Xu Zilin sat on the bed, alert, scanning her surroundings and the man before her.

Su Yang’s gaze sharpened as well, locking onto her without moving.

Before he could speak, Xu Zilin beat him to it.

"Who are you? Where is this? And what were you trying to do, standing so close to me?" A cold, detached voice came from the delicate-looking girl on the bed.

Facing her rapid-fire questions, Su Yang remained expressionless, though inwardly, he was baffled.

What the hell is going on? Does she have split personality disorder? Yeah, that must be it. The personality shift is too drastic otherwise.

Su Yang frowned slightly and tested the waters. "This is my place. I’m Su Yang. You don’t remember?"

"Su Yang?" Xu Zilin repeated, her eyes shifting as if searching her memory.

But she quickly replied, "Don’t know you."

"Don’t know me? We were just eating late-night snacks together, and now you don’t recognize me? And you kicked me?"

Xu Zilin stared at him unblinkingly. "You were too close."

"Tch—" She suddenly clutched her head, wincing.

"You’re drunk," Su Yang said flatly.

After a couple of seconds, Xu Zilin spoke again. "I get it now. That must’ve been my sister drinking with you earlier."

"Your sister?" Su Yang was stunned. Split personalities calling each other sisters? What kind of messed-up situation is this? How do I always end up in these weird scenarios?

"Yeah, I don’t know you, but my sister does. She got drunk, and you brought her to your place..." Xu Zilin massaged her temples, piecing things together. But when she reached the part about him bringing her home, her expression turned wary.

"What’s your relationship with my sister? What were you planning to do to her?"

Su Yang sighed. At this point, he fully believed she had dissociative identity disorder—and a severe case at that, with personalities referring to each other as siblings. Unbelievable.

"Your sister and I are just friends. We only met recently. I brought her here because she was completely wasted, and I didn’t know where she lived. What else was I supposed to do? Doesn’t that make sense?"

"Then why were you standing so close earlier?"

"I thought you—no, I thought she had passed out. She hadn’t moved a muscle from the restaurant all the way here, so I was checking if she was still breathing."

As Su Yang spoke, Xu Zilin scrutinized him. His clear gaze didn’t seem deceitful, so she reluctantly accepted his explanation.

"Fine. But if you dare lay a finger on her with any twisted intentions, I’ll castrate you myself," Xu Zilin said coolly.

Su Yang couldn’t help but chuckle. He walked over and sat on a nearby armchair.

"Alright, let’s drop that. But can you explain this whole... transformation thing?"

"Transformation?" Xu Zilin didn’t quite follow.

Su Yang mused, Split personalities are fascinating. Same body, but the differences in demeanor are night and day.

"I mean how you suddenly switch into a completely different person."

Xu Zilin replied indifferently, "I don’t know you. Why should I explain anything?"

"We just met, didn’t we? And I am friends with your sister. What’s the harm in telling me?"

After a pause, Xu Zilin spoke slowly. "It’s what people call dissociative identity disorder. But we’re not like the usual cases."

"How so?"

"For example, when I’m active, my sister is dormant. Even if she weren’t drunk, it’d be the same. When one personality is present, the other isn’t aware."

Su Yang listened intently. "So afterward, or at some point, can you two communicate and share what happened?"

"We can."

"You can?" Su Yang’s eyes widened. He’d asked casually, not expecting an actual method.

"That’s why I said we’re different."

"Then how... do you communicate?"

Xu Zilin studied him before answering. "When both personalities are dormant..."

"Like when you’re asleep?"

"You could say that. But there are other ways too. I won’t go into details."

"So how soon will your sister know about what’s happening now?"

"If I want her to, she’ll know quickly. But now that I think about it, if you really knew her, there are only two possibilities: either she never mentioned you to me, or you’re lying."

Damn, that’s actually a solid lie detector.

"I’ve got no reason to lie. You can ask her yourself later."

"I doubt you’d dare deceive me anyway."

Xu Zilin shot him a glare and tried to stand, but her legs gave out as a sharp pain shot through her head, forcing her back down.

Su Yang raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing?"

"Going home. You expect me to stay in a stranger’s house?"

"Weren’t you all tough just now? Scared I’ll do something?"

Xu Zilin considered his words and decided against leaving—mostly because her previous personality had been far too drunk, and the throbbing headache made it impossible to move.

Even with the personality switch, the alcohol in her system hadn’t magically disappeared.

To put it simply, it's about one body harboring two distinct personalities, yet they ultimately share the same physical form. What happens to one personality inevitably affects the other, though the degree of impact may vary.

Su Yang stood up with a smile and said, "Just rest here for the night. I won’t do anything to you."

He walked toward the bedroom door but paused after a couple of steps, turning back to ask, "By the way, do you have a name? Or do both of you go by Xu Zilin?"

Xu Zilin hesitated for a moment before replying, "I’m Xu Zining—'Ning' as in 'tranquility.'"

Su Yang nodded. "How long do you usually stay out?"

"Not long. I’m not the primary personality—my sister is."

Su Yang gave another nod and turned to leave. "Alright, get some rest."
