Evidence?
In an era where the strong reign supreme, what need is there for evidence?
Li Luoyi clenched her fists, then her thoughts took a turn. There was actually another way—getting Zhang Yunxiao to accept Du Ran.
But that idea was too absurd. Besides, if Zhang Yunxiao were to meet his true love later, problems would still arise.
So, Du Ran might as well just die.
"Father, I will do as you wish and find the evidence," Li Luoyi suddenly stood up and said solemnly to Dean Li.
"But I’ll need UR Academy’s latest micro-surveillance device."
Dean Li pondered for a moment but ultimately agreed.
Though it was somewhat against the rules, his daughter’s sincerity was undeniable. If Du Ran really had something to hide, uncovering it would be saving the Federation.
While Li Luoyi was busy scheming to monitor Du Ran, Little Wei and Ling Wanbai seemed to be enjoying a more leisurely time.
With the insectoid crisis not imminent, Little Wei dove even deeper into gaming.
"Yay! Another chicken dinner!" Little Wei emerged from the gaming pod, barely containing her excitement.
"A game makes you this happy?" Ling Wanbai couldn’t help but feel exasperated.
She had moved the gaming pod into Little Wei’s room, so the two could now play together daily.
"Of course!" Little Wei chirped.
Ling Wanbai: "..."
If Little Wei didn’t start working on her missions soon, she’d officially become a first-class protected slacker.
Ever since the black orb disappeared, Little Wei had completely checked out.
Du Ran? She couldn’t care less.
If not for the fact that Little Nailuo had been keeping an eye on Du Ran under Little Wei’s orders, Ling Wanbai might have already filed a complaint against her slacking host.
"Little Nailuo, any updates on Du Ran? Any contact with the insectoids?" Seeing Ling Wanbai lost in thought, Little Wei quickly asked Little Nailuo.
If they could just find evidence linking Du Ran to the insectoids and submit it, this mission would practically be over.
Though to maximize completion, she’d probably have to lose some weight.
After all, looks were a big deal for girls—something they cared about deeply.
So, after some serious self-reflection, Little Wei decided to start dieting today and work on sculpting those abs.
"Nothing so far, Little Wei. My suggestion is to provoke her—maybe target Zhang Yunxiao. Du Ran will definitely react."
Ever since her schemes were exposed, Du Ran hadn’t dared to leave her room.
Third-year students didn’t have many classes; most stayed on campus to work on mech research reports. So, no one questioned Du Ran’s absence.
"Zhang Yunxiao?"
Little Wei shot a sideways glance at Ling Wanbai.
She did have a way to approach Zhang Yunxiao, but if Ling Wanbai got upset, would she end up with her legs broken?
Yikes. Si could be terrifying when angry.
"Why are you looking at me?" Ling Wanbai had naturally overheard the conversation.
Targeting Zhang Yunxiao was indeed a solid plan.
If Du Ran’s composure cracked, she’d definitely reach out to the insectoids.
But…
Ling Wanbai thought about the planet where over a dozen insectoids had vanished. Could they even still make contact?
That was the real question.
"I just think you’re pretty." Ling Wanbai snapped out of her thoughts to hear Little Wei’s shameless flirting.
"…Cut it out." Ling Wanbai was equal parts annoyed and amused.
Still, she had to admit—Ling Wanbai’s appearance and temperament were the closest to her own.
"I’ve decided—we’ll send someone to seduce Zhang Yunxiao."
After some thought, Little Wei concluded she shouldn’t try it herself.
An affair might sound thrilling, but the consequences were too painful. If Ling Wanbai lost her temper, she’d be the one suffering.
"Send someone to seduce him?" Ling Wanbai frowned slightly.
It wasn’t a bad idea, but where would they find such a person? And one who matched Zhang Yunxiao’s preferences?
"I need to know who Zhang Yunxiao ends up marrying."
That was a complicated question. The original host died too early to remember, but Little Nailuo had new intel.
"Little Wei, Li Luoyi just approached Zhong Ruyue."
Zhong Ruyue?
Wait—
Was she Zhang Yunxiao’s future official match? Guess her fan-girling paid off.
But was Li Luoyi also after Du Ran?
Seemed like both hosts’ mission targets overlapped.
"What did they say?" Little Wei asked.
"Li Luoyi’s playing matchmaker—trying to set Zhong Ruyue up with Zhang Yunxiao," Little Nailuo replied, eyes glued to the surveillance feed while still gaming.
"Matchmaking is MY job!" Little Wei panicked.
"Huh?" Little Nailuo was baffled.
Why was Little Wei insulting herself?
A brothel madam? Might as well be a gigolo—though Si would never allow it.
"Little Wei, I’ve got something to take care of." Ling Wanbai tossed the words over her shoulder and left.
Si returned to her room, sat on the couch, and after a long pause, conjured a tiny golden figure in her palm—the original Ling Wanbai.
She had something to say.
"I feel like I’ve learned a lot," Ling Wanbai told Si.
"Like what?" Si was puzzled.
"You… taught me many things. But what I don’t understand is—since we’ve merged, how come my personality doesn’t affect yours?" Ling Wanbai hopped down onto a book on the coffee table.
"Because I’m a bottomless pit," Si replied with a smile.
Ling Wanbai’s usually indifferent expression softened slightly.
"I don’t fully understand the emotions I’ve been feeling lately, but… I’m genuinely happy." She placed a hand over her chest, as if feeling her heart race.
Truthfully, her personality had always been fragmented—a fact doctors had pointed out years ago.
So when something began filling that void, she embraced it without hesitation.
She wanted to be whole.
"So, what did you need?" Si asked.
"I want to influence you," Ling Wanbai stated bluntly.
Si: "?"
Influence her how?
After a moment, Si ventured, "You mean… my personality?"
Personality was somewhat redundant for Si, but she and Ling Wanbai hadn’t fully merged yet.
What Si wanted to do aligned with Ling Wanbai’s desires, and Ling Wanbai’s impulses sometimes stirred in her—though Ling Wanbai wouldn’t act on everything.
"Mm." Ling Wanbai nodded.
Si shook her head regretfully. "That won’t happen. Once you’ve found fulfillment with Little Wei and are ready to join me, I’ll extract your emotions."
A person’s personality stemmed from their emotions and desires.
For humans, that was natural. For gods? It could be fatal.
