Little Wei racked her brains but couldn’t figure out who it was. Still, it wasn’t a big deal—there was plenty of time, and this mystery would eventually be solved.
On her way back to the dorm, she shared the list of three suspects with Little Nailuo.
"Classic three-option dilemma. Might I suggest hiring Detective Conan, sweetie?" Little Nailuo sat cross-legged on the screen, staring at the names of the three girls, her voice soft and sugary.
"No sweetie-ing. Go investigate. Don’t try acting cute with me—it won’t work."
Little Wei was tempted to roll her eyes at her.
Little Nailuo didn’t take offense and actually got to work. The internet here was highly advanced, so gathering information was quick. By the time they reached the dorm entrance, Little Nailuo had already compiled profiles on the three girls.
Most were second-years, including Zhong Ruyue’s details.
Zhong Ruyue came from an average family and had a clean social record, so Little Wei dismissed her outright.
Of the remaining two, one was a double-S. The profile indicated she was Li Yu’s younger sister?
Her name was… Li Luoyi.
Hmm, very likely. Of course, she also had to consider the UR around Zhang Yunxiao—like that Du Ran downstairs.
Though both had appeared in similar ways and at the same time, Du Ran didn’t seem to look at Zhang Yunxiao with any particular affection.
These two would need closer scrutiny.
"Little Wei, Du Ran’s easy to look up. She’s pretty famous online. Aside from being the deputy captain of the Federation Combat Team’s Second Division, her parents made significant contributions to the Federal Alliance. Even though they’re artists now, they’re still beloved by the people."
Little Wei’s lips twitched.
"Now that you mention it, I’m starting to suspect she’s not their biological daughter."
Du Ran’s character seemed like a walking, talking cannon fodder.
"Honestly, same," Little Nailuo agreed. "She doesn’t seem the sharpest."
"Regardless, these two need extra attention—especially this Li Luoyi. If she shows up nearby, you have to warn me." Little Wei stared at the screen at the girl who looked sweet and harmless.
Judging by appearances alone, she was already suspecting Du Ran as the one who killed the original owner.
But if she just kept investigating and speculating, progress would be too slow. She’d have to resort to the classic honey trap.
Seduce a man.
Now that was an unprecedented challenge.
"Sis, you don’t actually need to seduce him. Just interact with him more, and the culprit will probably reveal themselves."
"Fine," Little Wei agreed immediately.
But wasn’t a double-S befriending a UR still a honey trap?
Too bad for the oranges in this world—looks like only Ling Wanbai would be left heartbroken.
Little Wei wasted no time. She went downstairs and knocked on Zhang Yunxiao’s door.
Zhang Yunxiao opened it to find a pretty girl standing outside. Upon closer inspection—oh, it was the double-S that Ling Wanbai pined for.
"What can I do for you, junior?" Zhang Yunxiao was fairly gentle with Little Wei.
Given her talent level, she’d definitely end up on the battlefield someday. They might even become comrades fighting side by side.
"I love you. That’s all."
Zhang Yunxiao choked, his eyes flicking toward Ling Wanbai, who had just returned from the dining hall and was heading upstairs.
She froze mid-step.
Zhang Yunxiao’s gaze darkened like storm clouds, unsure how to react.
Little Wei hadn’t expected Ling Wanbai to return just in time to hear that. For some reason, she felt a pang of guilt.
Like a wife caught cheating by her husband.
At least, that was the current dynamic.
Ling Wanbai glanced their way a few times but didn’t say a word before continuing upstairs.
Zhang Yunxiao exhaled in relief and turned back to Little Wei. "Junior, don’t joke like that. I have a fiancée."
"Fiancée? Who? Doesn’t matter. I like you anyway."
Zhang Yunxiao: "..."
"Junior, please act normal. You’re scaring me." And he genuinely was.
In all his years, he’d never met such a forward double-S. The ones who pursued him before had all been shy and reserved—none of this bold, flirtatious nonsense.
It left him completely at a loss.
"I think I’m pretty normal. What’s wrong with liking you?" Little Wei was just getting started.
Teasing boys was thrilling.
She loved this feeling.
Before she could even giggle, a chill shot up her spine, freezing her in place. She stiffly turned her head to see Ling Wanbai smiling at her.
Little Wei: "..."
"Please act normal. You’re scaring me."
A cold, deadpan expression from Ling Wanbai wouldn’t have fazed her.
But that smile…
It was eerie, sending a shiver crawling up from the soles of her feet.
"Oh? Is that so? Well, come along. Teacher Li just messaged me—he has a meeting this afternoon, so I’ll be taking over your class. Since it’s just basic knowledge, we don’t need to use the classroom." Ling Wanbai kept smiling, making Little Wei’s skin prickle with goosebumps.
"…Okay." Little Wei lowered her head.
Wait, why was she cowering?
"Let’s just go to the classroom. I like classrooms." She quickly looked back up at Ling Wanbai.
"But I’m exhausted from this morning. I don’t feel like moving." Ling Wanbai rubbed her temples.
Little Wei stiffened. "Then should I hire someone to carry you there?"
What kind of laziness was this? Couldn’t even walk to the classroom? Was Ling Wanbai trying to become a pig?
"Who exactly would you hire?" Ling Wanbai seemed genuinely amused, a trace of real laughter slipping through.
Little Wei: "..."
Before she could retort, Zhang Yunxiao shut the door, cutting off any chance of rescue.
Fine!
Next chance she got, she was beating him up.
Defeated, Little Wei trudged back upstairs.
Just before she closed her door, Ling Wanbai called out, "Class starts in two hours."
"Bye-bye." Little Wei waved without looking back and slammed the door shut.
She growled at Little Nailuo, "Order a funeral banquet for Ling Wanbai."
"Ahem, sis, that’s a bit much," Little Nailuo hurriedly soothed.
"I was trying to lure out Du Ran, but instead, I summoned her."
Little Wei was fuming.
"Sis, Du Ran was actually behind her door just now. She was paying close attention." Little Nailuo had already noticed Du Ran’s movements.
Little Wei’s instincts were spot-on.
But on the surface, there was no sign Du Ran had any feelings for Zhang Yunxiao.
And now there was another problem.
This world had no blind spots for surveillance. Even if Du Ran was confirmed as the original owner’s killer, how could Little Wei eliminate her without a trace?
Whatever. Murder was too bloody—she wasn’t cut out for it.
Better to just piss Du Ran off to death. That was more her style.
"Sis, what about Li Luoyi?" Little Nailuo asked.
"Keep observing her too."
