White Tiger: So I Made My Move

“Instructor Jing, long time no see.” An Changqing took a deep breath and turned toward the man leaning against the tree, looking as though he had done his part and was ready to leave. “You didn’t come all the way here just to clean up the mess us clumsy teachers made, did you?”

“Oh?” White Tiger turned around, a carefree, roguish smile returning to his lips. “What else would I be here for? To watch a few prodigies like you make fools of yourselves?”

“Though, to be fair, that would be pretty entertaining too,” he added.

An Changqing was left speechless.

Communicating with this instructor was always such a headache.

“All right, stop loitering around here.” White Tiger waved his hand as though shooing away flies. “You’re done here. What comes next is their own lesson.”

“Jing?”

An uncertain voice rang out. White Tiger turned at the sound, and found himself face-to-face with White Eagle.

He flashed a bright smile and greeted him with practiced ease. “Yo, long time no see. Black Crow asked me to say hello.”

“Why didn’t that brat come himself?”

White Eagle had shed his usual stern demeanor. It seemed White Tiger’s attitude had rubbed off on him, and he appeared far more relaxed than usual.

“Oh, you know how it is. There’s been a massive mobilization lately, so he’s busy with his instructor duties.”

White Tiger wore a cheeky grin. White Eagle remained unmoved. “You look pretty free.”

“Aw, you know me. I’m responsible for certain special operations.”

White Tiger waved dismissively, not the least bit embarrassed. He was making full use of his shameless nature.

“So the ‘special operation’ you mentioned is coming here?” White Eagle’s brief moment of relaxation vanished. He glared coldly, his voice low and stern, looking every inch like a commander catching a deserter.

“How could that be?” White Tiger coughed twice and instantly put on a serious face. “I’m here under orders from above to escort a key witness.”

As he spoke, he produced a paper document with an air of great solemnity.

White Eagle raised an eyebrow with interest. “Who?”

“Student Chen Guan.”

An Changqing frowned. “Instructor Jing, Chen Guan’s condition is extremely serious.”

An Changqing immediately brought out Doctor Zhou’s medical report and displayed it before continuing, “Any long-distance travel could cause his injuries to deteriorate completely.”

Chen Guan: “!!!”

An Changqing, don’t sabotage me!

Chen Guan immediately brushed the snow off his clothes and leapt down from the stone, afraid that if he moved even a moment too slowly, this male lead would start arguing in earnest. He hurriedly said, “All right, I’m the one who wants to go with him.”

Chen Guan waved his right hand at An Changqing and made a little goodbye gesture. “Instructor Jing already discussed this with me.”

“Remember to change your dressings on time.”

Su Yuehe hurried over and stuffed the bag of medicine into Chen Guan’s uninjured hand.

“Don’t get it wet.”

Chen Guan accepted the heavy bag and said quietly, “Thank you.”

Nearby, White Eagle had personally driven a vehicle over to the two of them. He jumped out of the driver’s seat and said to White Tiger, “Don’t say I didn’t make things convenient for you.”

White Tiger whistled. “Thanks.”

He then walked around to the driver’s side, started the engine, and Chen Guan placed the coffin in the back seat before opening the front passenger door and sitting down.

The off-road vehicle carved deep tracks through the snow and soon vanished into the swirling storm.

The heater was turned up high inside the cabin. Chen Guan gazed out at the endless white snowfield as the tents fell farther and farther behind them.

Warm air roared from the vents, forcibly shutting out the raging wind and snow beyond the windows.

White Tiger steered with one hand, the broad tires rolling steadily over the thick snow. He even hummed an unfamiliar tune under his breath.

“So? Feels a lot freer now that we’ve ditched those little tagalongs, doesn’t it?”

Chen Guan leaned against the leather backrest of the passenger seat and drew his gaze back from the snow-covered forest sliding past outside.

“They’re my friends.”

“I know. But they’re only your friends for now. Who can say what the future holds?” The smile on White Tiger’s lips deepened.

Chen Guan ignored the pointless provocation.

“Where are we going?”

“Another Great Wall outpost in the Northern Frontier, Outpost Seven.” White Tiger kept his eyes on the road ahead. “That coffin is located farther inside. This place is only a transfer station, established specifically to monitor the situation.”

Chen Guan nodded slightly.

The corner of White Tiger’s eye flicked toward the passenger seat, his gaze lingering for a moment on Chen Guan’s arm, wrapped tightly in bandages.

“That Doctor Zhou said the nerves are necrotic and won’t recover anytime soon, right?”

“Mm.”

“She wasn’t wrong. An ordinary person wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.” White Tiger gave a smug little snort. “But who says I’m ordinary?”

He deliberately leaned a little closer, amusement dancing in his eyes.

“I’m your exemplary boss, after all. When a subordinate gets injured in the line of duty, a good leader has to show some concern.”

“As for what that concern will look like…” He gave a knowing hum. “I’ll tell you afterward.”

The off-road vehicle crossed the final stretch of snowfield. At the edge of the wasteland stood a military base enclosed beneath a colossal, translucent rune barrier.

Energy nodes radiating blue light crawled across the surface of the towering metal walls. Atop several watchtowers, heavy rune cannons slowly adjusted their aim as the vehicle approached.

White Tiger passed through three consecutive red-light scans and identity checks before the half-meter-thick alloy gate finally rumbled upward.

The off-road vehicle came to a stop outside the entrance of a freestanding, snow-white building.

White Tiger twisted the key, switched off the engine, and pulled it free before pushing open the door and jumping out.

“We’re here. Get out and stretch your legs.”

Chen Guan followed, pushing open the door. The subzero wind poured down his collar, forcibly scraping away the fatigue in his body.

He surveyed the empty grounds around them. From a distance came the uniform pounding of military boots, while several people in windproof research coats hurried past carrying metal cases.

“Let’s deal with that injury now, so it doesn’t cause trouble later.” White Tiger raised his right hand. His slender fingers quickly traced an intricate, interlocking pattern through the air.

A dazzling green light melted a circular formation into the snow before them.

A four-legged beast covered entirely in snow-white fur stepped out of the glowing formation. The creature had luminous antlers and tilted its head, studying Chen Guan intently.

This was the first time Chen Guan had seen White Tiger require a summoning ritual with a wind-up. As far as he remembered, the man usually just clapped his hands and summoned whatever he wanted.

“This is my life-element summoned beast, Moonglow. It specializes in treating all kinds of difficult illnesses—especially disasters like you, after your body’s been gnawed to pieces by demonic energy.” White Tiger clapped his hands.

What he didn’t mention was that Moonglow was an exceptionally powerful demon beast. Even he couldn’t summon her whenever he pleased; he had spent the entire journey inviting this temperamental lady along.

At last, he could put on a proper show.

He secretly reveled in anticipation, imagining Chen Guan’s shock and awe, followed by tears of gratitude.

Hmph. As a superior, he absolutely had to impress his subordinate properly.
