Alien Intrusion

"We've finally finished the mining! With this mountain of resources, the clan chief surely will reward us with some of the human tribes we keep penned up, right?"

After they finished extracting the last piece of Demon Origin Star Ore, over a hundred Demon cultivators gathered deep in the mine vein, tallying up the resources in their spatial rings.

"We even got over two hundred pieces of Demon Origin Star Marrow. This trip was totally worth it. We owe it all to the method the elder gave us to control these remnant spirits — without that, we'd never have laid a claim on such a massive vein."

One Demon cultivator at the peak of the Dao Verification Realm wore a twisted, sinister grin on his face.

"But boss, what happened to those two brothers? Could they really have been killed by these weird, acting-out remnant spirits?"

Another Demon cultivator asked. Losing two fellow peak Dao Verification Realm brothers was no small loss for their group.

At his words, all the surrounding Demon cultivators turned their gazes toward the huddle of oddly behaving remnant spirits at the very deepest part of the mine.

"These remnant spirits are nothing like the ones we've enslaved. I tried the method the elder taught us a moment ago, and it didn't work on them at all," the lead Demon cultivator frowned. "This place used to be the world where the Demon Grievance race lived. Truth be told, the Demon Grievance race has deep ties to our Demon race from way back in ancient times — that's the only reason we could even command those other remnant spirits in the first place."

"According to the records in our Demon race's history, the Demon Grievance race at their peak was even stronger than our Demon race. But they got wiped out entirely by a passing human cultivator who did it on a whim."

"That human cultivator is also recorded in our Demon race's historical texts."

"Huh? Humanity ever had a cultivator that powerful? One single person could wipe out the entire Demon Grievance race?"

The surrounding Demon cultivators found that hard to believe.

At their peak, the Demon Grievance race even had existences standing above the Sovereign Realm. Yet such a super great clan had been slaughtered to total annihilation by a single human cultivator, reduced to mindless remnant spirits that knew nothing but killing.

This fact was nearly impossible for the Demon cultivators, who treated humans as nothing more than livestock, to accept.

The lead Demon cultivator's expression grew heavy, and he lowered his voice significantly. "The legends say that human is the illustrious Yellow Springs Celestial Venerable."

"Yellow Springs Celestial Venerable?!"

"The almighty super powerhouse who came from the Xuahuang Realm, which has now fallen to a lower plane, who once suppressed all races across the cosmos so hard none of them could lift their heads, and who vanished ages ago?!"

Across this starry sky universe, any cultivator with a modicum of strength who had lived long enough would have heard the name of Yellow Springs Celestial Venerable, but very few knew that the legendary figure was human, and hailed from such a tiny lower plane.

"That's exactly who he was."

"Word has it that if Yellow Springs Celestial Venerable hadn't chosen to show mercy back then, this ancient realm would have ceased to exist long ago. There would never have been any Demon Grievance remnant spirits or Demon Origin Star Ore left here at all."

"These remnant spirits in this place are acting so strangely — I'm afraid they've actually developed sentience. But none of that matters to us anymore. Our top priority now is to cover our tracks, get ready to evacuate this ancient realm. The hundred-year time limit is almost up, after all."

Right as the lead Demon cultivator was about to give the order to retreat, a ghostly, wispy voice drifted straight into all their ears.

"Think you can run? You gonna ask our boss first! Brothers, move out!"

BOOM!!

A bone-chillingly cold aura, surging with terrifying power of the Slaughter Law, exploded out from the depths of the mine. Two half-step Sovereign Realm remnant spirits stood up to their full, towering height, their scarlet red eyes locking onto the hundred Demon cultivators, as a tide of killing intent crashed down over them all.

The next second, hundreds of Dao Verification Realm ghosts all turned their heads in unison, their hollow eye sockets fixed straight on the Demon cultivators. A chill ran down every last one of their spines.

"Not good! Get out of here now!"

The Demon cultivators immediately realized something was very wrong. The remnant spirits in front of them could talk — that was as shocking as seeing a regular dog suddenly open its mouth to speak.

Sentient remnant spirits were far more terrifying than mindless ones. Worse, what they were facing right now weren't even Demon Grievance remnant spirits at all. They were genuine Ghost Generals!

"Damn it! There's a massive horde of remnant spirits coming up from behind! No — they aren't remnant spirits! What in the world are these things?!"

RIP! RIP! RIP!

Dense swarms of ghosts flooded the battlefield, sealing off the entire mine tunnel with no way in or out. Pair after pair of hollow, vicious eyes stared at the Demon cultivators, and every single one of them felt their scalp go numb.

"Break through the encirclement! Even if we die, we have to get these resources out!"

The lead peak Dao Verification Realm Demon cultivator furrowed his brows and roared out the order.

The situation had shifted so abruptly none of the Demon cultivators could process it. Where on earth did all these icy, ghostly things come from all of a sudden?!

"Jiejiejie, you wanna leave? Fine — leave your souls behind first!"

"Hehehhehe... just kidding! You still ain't going nowhere even if you leave your souls behind! Brothers, not a single one of them gets away — kill 'em all!"

"Idiot, the boss said we need to keep their bodies intact, they're useful for later."

BOOM!!

The full-scale battle erupted. Facing a ghost army numbering in the tens of millions, including three ghosts with combat power at the half-step Sovereign Realm level, the battlefield was almost entirely one-sided.

Only the Demon cultivators at the peak and late stage of the Dao Verification Realm could barely hold their ground against the ghost horde with the help of their defensive artifacts. All the rest didn't even get a chance to fight back before their souls were torn to shreds and devoured by the swarming ghosts.

"Dammit!"

"These damned ghostly things — what the hell are they?!"

"We're done for, we can't escape at all!"

If it weren't for those three half-step Sovereign Realm level ghosts, a few of the Demon cultivators might have stood a chance of slipping away. But now, their hope of fleeing was so thin it barely existed.

BOOM!!!

A violent tremor made the entire mine cave in. Countless Ghost Generals soared into the sky, weaving together with the black mist, pushing the Demon cultivators into total despair.

Mo Tianxiao had hidden his figure in the black mist far off in the distance, calmly waiting for his brothers to finish wiping out the Demon cultivators one by one.

Demon cultivators did have a few tricks up their sleeves to deal with ghostly beings, but against absolute superiority in strength and numbers, their defeat was only a matter of time.

"Five days should be more than enough," Mo Tianxiao mumbled to himself. He was lying lazily on a chair on the flying shuttle hidden in the black mist, munching on a spirit fruit, completely relaxed.

On this trip to the ancient realm, the Demon Origin Star Ore and Demon Origin Star Marrow weren't his biggest harvest. His greatest gain by far was refining all those Demon Grievance remnant spirits, which had pushed his own combat power up by leaps and bounds.

In the Human Emperor Banner, his army now numbered in the tens of millions. Three of his ghosts boasted half-step Sovereign Realm combat power, hundreds were at the Dao Verification Realm level, and there were roughly ten thousand ghosts at the Path Master Realm level. The rest of his ghost brothers had all absorbed and refined countless remnant souls and spirits, so their overall strength had risen by a huge margin.

He'd definitely have to thank Liya properly once they got out of here.

"That's an incredibly powerful fluctuation — there's definitely cultivators fighting over there!"

"Huh? Those are... Demon cultivators?! And there's a horrifying number of remnant spirits too?!"

"Never mind the Demon cultivators or the remnant spirits! Can't you all feel the Slaughter Law energy here? The concentration is insane — how massive is the ore vein down there?!"

Several voices rang out one after another, and then swarms of alien races poured out of the black mist, rushing straight toward the site of the battle.

Mo Tianxiao, who was shrouded in the dark mist, frowned slightly and stood up. "The commotion is too loud... Could it have drawn in the foreign races from the surrounding area..."
