Even a hero can be tripped by beauty

Old Liu had finally caught his breath, leaning against the wall as he sat on the floor.

He sneered and turned his face away.

Even if it meant death, he would never yield to Lin Xuan. His loyalty to the Black Snake Gang was unshakable for life.

Lin Xuan raised an eyebrow and extended his hand. "Hand it over."

"Yes."

A file was promptly placed in his grasp.

Lin Xuan walked over to Old Liu, holding the documents.

"Hmph," Old Liu scoffed. "Even if you kill me, I won’t lift a finger to help you!"

"Impressive. Such devotion to your boss," Lin Xuan remarked, not withholding his praise.

Old Liu muttered under his breath.

How could he not be loyal?

If he betrayed the boss, his wife and children would pay the price.

"I’m not forcing you," Lin Xuan said, handing the file to Old Liu. "I just want you to take a look at this."

Old Liu snapped, "I won’t!"

"Are you sure?" Lin Xuan arched a brow. "This concerns your wife."

Old Liu immediately snatched the file and flipped through it.

His wife had already emigrated to the U.S.

To his shock, the documents contained evidence of her criminal activities there.

If this reached the authorities, she’d spend the rest of her life behind bars.

"How did you get this?" Old Liu stared at Lin Xuan in disbelief.

Lin Xuan smiled. "Let’s just say I have my ways. If you cooperate with me now, I’ll pretend I never saw these. But if you disobey or play games, don’t blame me for sending this to the police. On the other hand, if you comply, I’ll arrange protection for your wife. Your boss won’t lay a finger on her."

Old Liu gritted his teeth.

He had no choice but to agree.

"Fine," Old Liu said, closing his eyes and nodding. "I’ll do as you say."

"What do you need me to do?" he asked.

Lin Xuan smiled. "Don’t worry, it’s simple. Your boss is in the country, right?"

"Yes, he’s here," Old Liu confirmed.

Lin Xuan: "Take me to him."

"What?" Old Liu was stunned.

"Mr. Lin, our boss brought a lot of men with him. When someone hired us to deal with you, he saw your photo. If you go to him like this, it might be dangerous," Old Liu warned.

Lin Xuan smirked. "He can’t touch me."

"Alright then," Old Liu conceded with a nod.

Lin Xuan turned to Lei Hui and Butler Wang.

"Uncle Lei, Butler Wang, I have to go somewhere else now, and it’s not convenient to bring you along. These three will escort you back."

He gestured to the three men from the Golden Dragon Gang, excluding Cheng Da and Cheng Er.

"Boss," Lei Hui rubbed his hands together eagerly. "Next time you deal with someone in person, can you take me along?"

This was far more thrilling than any game.

Lin Xuan glanced at him, surprised by his enthusiasm.

"Sure," he agreed.

"Thanks, boss!" Lei Hui grinned widely.

"Don’t forget about me, Young Master Lin," Butler Wang chimed in with a smile.

"When have I ever left you out of the fun?" Lin Xuan replied.

"True," Butler Wang chuckled, scratching his head.

"It’s getting late. You two head back first."

Lin Xuan entered the factory’s executive office, took a shower, and changed into fresh clothes.

Every trace of blood splattered on his face had been washed away.

Once ready, he got into Old Liu’s car.

Old Liu endured the pain from his injuries as he drove, while Lin Xuan sat in the backseat and video-called Su Hua.

On the screen, Su Hua appeared to have just stepped out of the shower, dressed in a white silk nightgown. The strap on her shoulder had slipped down—whether intentionally or not—revealing her smooth skin and the curve of her breast.

Her damp black hair cascaded over her fair shoulders, the contrast striking.

The steam from the bath had left her cheeks flushed, making her look irresistibly alluring.

"What are you up to, Ah Xuan?" Su Hua leaned back on the leather sofa, her voice laced with drowsy charm.

"I was just handling some work with Lei Hui at the company. Now I’m heading out to discuss a partnership," Lin Xuan lied without missing a beat.

"Oh?" Su Hua arched an eyebrow.

Lin Xuan quickly changed the subject, afraid she’d probe further. The more he spoke, the easier it’d be to slip up—especially since Hua was sharp enough to notice inconsistencies.

"Hua, your stomach isn’t great. Remember to drink some warm milk later and go to bed early. You have work tomorrow, and resting well is good for your health."

Hearing his fussy concern, Su Hua’s lips curled into a faint smile.

Being doted on by Ah Xuan felt rather nice.

"I’m not planning to sleep yet. I want to wait for you," Su Hua purred, deliberately drawing out the last few words.

Lin Xuan’s mind involuntarily conjured images of them tangled together in bed.

He coughed lightly and averted his gaze.

"Hua, I have to go now. If I’m back too late, don’t wait up. Just sleep first."

With that, he ended the call.

At Night Garden...

The stunning woman lounging on the sofa let out a soft chuckle.

"Sometimes, Xuan can be so easy to tease," she murmured.

While Su Hua and Lin Xuan were on the call, Old Liu had been eavesdropping intently on their conversation.

To his surprise, the man who had seemed as terrifying as a wrathful deity just moments ago now spoke with such gentleness to the woman on the video call.

Truly, even the mightiest heroes falter before beauty.

Old Liu couldn’t help but shake his head.

He drove the car to the front of a villa and frowned.

"Mr. Lin, if I take you in like this, your two subordinates will have to wait outside. They won’t be able to accompany you. Are you sure you want to go in alone?"

Lin Xuan ordered, "Both of you, wait for me outside."

"But, Young Master Lin, your safety—" Cheng Da protested, his voice laced with concern.

Lin Xuan smiled. "You know better than anyone whether they can even lay a finger on me, don’t you?"

Gradually, the tension in Cheng Da’s brow eased.

It was true—no one could harm Young Master Lin.

Back when the gang leader had stormed the Golden Dragon Gang alone, facing off against countless elite fighters, he hadn’t suffered a single scratch.

Let alone this ragtag group from the Black Snake Gang.

Besides, after following the gang leader for so long, Cheng Da had begun to sense that there was something mysterious about him. Even if danger arose, Lin Xuan could always slip away unscathed.

"Alright, then. Please be careful, Young Master Lin."

With that, Cheng Da and Cheng Er stepped out of the car and took up positions not far from the villa, while Old Liu drove into the garden.

"Gang Leader," Old Liu greeted respectfully, bowing as he entered the villa’s grand hall.

The Dragon Boat Festival holiday has come to an end... sigh
