Insane Attribute Grinding

Liu Xuan didn’t care much about the other skills. “Unease,” armor break, attack speed reduction—none of them mattered to him now that he had “Rebound.”

What he cared about was the final skill: “Spider Mother.”

When the boss’s HP dropped to a certain point, it would flee to recover, then spawn a wave of minions.

If he deliberately slowed down and let it recover more HP, could he repeatedly trigger this mechanic and keep farming minions?

Regardless of whether it worked, there was no harm in trying.

In the darkness of night, it was impossible to make out the spider’s movements or appearance. He could only rely on the fluorescent patterns on its back to determine its position and attack intent.

But “Thunder Aura” didn’t care about any of that. It opened with a bolt of heavenly lightning.

After Liu Xuan had spent all this time farming monsters, the aura’s damage had already skyrocketed to 70,000. It was terrifyingly powerful.

It truly resembled divine punishment.

“-70,000!”

As fixed damage, it didn’t suffer even the slightest reduction. If it said 70,000, then it dealt exactly 70,000.

The bolt struck the Dread Nether Spider, which let out a pained howl. Its enormous body twisted involuntarily.

It then viciously swiped at Liu Xuan with its foreleg.

However, that seemingly frightening basic attack of 2,300 damage felt like nothing to Liu Xuan.

“Heavenly Being” alone could reduce the damage by 500.

On top of that, the armor break and “Unease” debuffs attached to the attack were instantly sent back to the boss by “Rebound.”

The more the boss attacked, the lower its own armor became. Combined with Liu Xuan’s “Destruction Aura,” its armor was dropping even faster.

“-8,780!”

“-22,313!”

“-260!”

Several different damage-over-time effects struck in succession. Within just a few seconds of the battle beginning, the boss’s HP had already fallen below 70%.

Its body suddenly leaped into the air, landing on the rooftops of the surrounding houses before darting rapidly into the nearby forest.

Its figure disappeared, and the fluorescent markings on its back vanished as well. However, its enormous HP bar still appeared above the forest, indicating that it was lying in wait somewhere within.

Liu Xuan noticed that the boss’s HP bar was now translucent. The various damage-over-time effects he had applied were clearly still active, yet they had all disappeared.

It seemed the boss was invincible while transitioning between phases.

The boss had already begun slowly regenerating its HP.

Rustling sounds came from the surrounding forest. One fluorescent human face after another emerged from among the trees.

The Sentinel Spider Minions summoned by the Dread Nether Spider advanced on Liu Xuan from all directions.

These monsters were different from the ones before. Each of them had the suffix “Minion” attached to its name.

Liu Xuan’s eyes flickered. He charged toward the spiders coming from one direction.

On one hand, he wanted to see whether these summoned minions granted experience or dropped loot. On the other, he wanted to prevent all the spiders from being wiped out at once, or the boss wouldn’t be able to recover much HP.

A bolt of heavenly lightning descended, instantly clearing out all the Sentinel Spider Minions in that direction.

“Killed Sentinel Spider Minion. Gained 5 experience points.”

“Killed Sentinel Spider Minion. Gained 5 experience points.”

The result was both similar to and different from what Liu Xuan had expected.

They did grant experience, though not much, which suited their status as minions. But they didn’t drop anything at all.

Seven or eight minions, and not even a single copper coin had dropped.

Still, as long as they gave more than 1 experience point, they were worth farming.

Liu Xuan immediately charged toward another group of minions nearby. With “Ominous Spread,” he could simply crash straight into the monster pack now.

If one monster hit him, it was equivalent to every monster hitting him.

“Killed Sentinel Spider Minion. Gained 5 experience points.”

“Killed Poisoned monster. Base HP +1.”

“Killed Frightened monster. Intelligence +0.1.”

“Killed Sentinel Spider Minion. Gained 5 experience points.”

“Killed Poisoned monster. Base HP +1.”

“Killed Frightened monster. Intelligence +0.1.”

“……”

This was satisfying.

As Liu Xuan’s damage had grown higher and his ability to instantly kill monsters had become faster, it had been a long time since he had seen a whole stream of attribute-stacking notifications like this.

But now, they were back. All of them.

While the internal cooldown on Thunder Aura had yet to finish, Liu Xuan crashed into another wave of monsters. After stacking up his attributes, he used the cleared area to kite them as much as possible, stalling for time.

Only when there was nowhere left to run did he use Thunder Aura to wipe out another group of monsters, then repeat the process.

When other people fought this boss, they would surely try to kill the minions as quickly as possible to keep the boss from recovering too much HP.

Liu Xuan, on the other hand, wished it would recover as much as possible.

However, the boss’s summoned minions were limited in number, with only around forty or fifty appearing each time. No matter how much Liu Xuan kited them, he eventually cleared them all out.

When he looked up, the boss’s HP had already recovered to 86%.

A commotion came from the direction of the forest. The fluorescent markings on the boss’s back appeared once again, and its enormous body swept through the air above the trees before returning to the battlefield.

With a boom, it landed in front of Liu Xuan, and its HP bar simultaneously became solid again.

“-70,000!”

The moment it returned, a bolt of heavenly lightning struck it.

Before Liu Xuan could do anything else, he watched as the boss leaped into the air again and fled back into the forest, its HP bar once more becoming translucent.

“……”

Are you doing sit-ups over there?

Liu Xuan stood dazed for a moment before realizing what had happened. His lightning strike had happened to knock the boss’s HP below 70% again.

Of course, dropping below 70% HP wouldn’t trigger this phase transition under every circumstance.

If it worked that way, the boss would basically be impossible to kill.

Liu Xuan deliberately tested it. If he killed the minions quickly enough and the boss hadn’t recovered to more than 80% HP, then dropping below 70% again after returning to the battlefield wouldn’t make it flee.

To test this, Liu Xuan naturally had to lower the boss’s HP below 70%. But that didn’t matter. The boss would also enter a transition phase at 30% HP, so he could continue farming experience and attributes from the minions.

He also discovered another hidden mechanic of the boss: once its HP dropped to 30%, it would flee to recover, but no matter how much it regenerated, it could never exceed 70%.

When it recovered to 69%, it would return to the battlefield directly, even if he hadn’t finished clearing the minions, forcing him to fight both the boss and the minions at once.

Liu Xuan continued farming the minions over and over, enjoying himself immensely. Although he hadn’t slept for more than a day, watching his attributes steadily increase actually left him feeling more and more energetic.

Eventually, he became so familiar with the process that it turned into a fixed routine:

Drop the boss below 30% HP, stall for time, and spend roughly half a minute clearing all the minions, allowing the boss to return at around 45% HP.

Let the lightning strike it back into the forest, then repeat the process.

The entire cycle took around thirty-five seconds—sometimes a little longer, because the boss was an idiot. Even after Liu Xuan had transferred “Unease” to it, it would still use “Frightful Visage,” a skill that could end up frightening the boss itself.

In short, over the course of 35 seconds, Liu Xuan could mow down nearly forty or fifty monsters, with anywhere from roughly one-third to two-thirds of them being struck down by Heavenly Thunder.

The exact ratio wasn’t very consistent. After all, sometimes several groups of monsters were clustered too closely together, making it impossible to control whether 【Corpse Explosion】 would trigger.

But on average, each cycle gave him around 25 points of base health and two or three points of Intelligence.

In other words, every 35 seconds or so, Liu Xuan could gain nearly 250 health.

With efficiency like this, what more could you ask for?

If he farmed in other places, he’d still have to wait for the monsters to respawn.

No wonder your skill is called 【Spider Mother】.

Of all the monsters I’ve encountered, none of you have been as generous with experience and attributes as you. I, Liu Xuan, hereby confer upon you the title of “Great Spider Mother.”
