[Life Notes]
March 2, Year XXXX.
On maternity leave!
Actually, the company is in a critical period right now and still needs me.
That idiot Ah Chu actually asked me, "Do you want to hire a maternity matron to take care of the baby?" I sternly refused!
Are you kidding me? I want to enjoy my maternity leave too, okay!
Lying at home resting and teasing the little guy, how comfortable is that.
Besides, the little guy is just too cute, I can't help but want to tease him.
His little hands are so tiny, not even half the size of my palm. He clenches them into fists, stuffs them by his mouth, and smacks his lips as he sucks on his pinky.
He even frowns when he sleeps. His little brows furrow together, and I have no idea what a baby could possibly be worrying about.
Ah Chu says that when a baby frowns, he's dreaming that his salary from his past life hasn't been paid.
I told him to stop spouting nonsense. If you ask me, the baby is wondering when his dad will stop working overtime.
Speaking of which, before I gave birth, all the experienced moms told me that newborns are incredibly hard to take care of.
You have to constantly feed them, change diapers, coax them to sleep... waking up several times a night, which can drive a person to the brink of collapse.
I even mentally prepared myself back then, thinking I'd be sporting dark circles under my eyes for months.
But as it turned out?
Our little guy is actually very easy to take care of!
He almost never cries for no reason, nor does he need to be held and coaxed. He only wails a few times when he's hungry or has soiled his diaper.
Once he's fed and changed into a clean diaper, he immediately quiets down.
Those two little eyes just dart around, looking everywhere.
He really is so smart!
Ah Chu says this child has definitely inherited his IQ. I said bullshit, he obviously inherited mine!
Ah Chu just laughed and didn't argue with me, but no matter how you look at it, that smile was asking for a beating!
Considering how hard he's been working on his research lately, I'll let him off the hook!
Besides, he's right...
It really is better to inherit his.
With my liberal arts brain, I even failed math back in the day, so it's better not to pass that on to the child.
Ah Chu's talent for speed-reading ten lines at a glance and calculating calculus without blinking an eye, if that could be passed on to Xiao Qi, it would be wonderful.
But then again, Xiao Qi absolutely must not turn out like his dad in the future, spending all day in the lab and almost being late for his wife giving birth!
That day, he was almost stopped outside the delivery room by the nurses. He explained for a long time, and finally, it was only when I roared from inside the delivery room, "Let him in," that they dropped it.
Honestly, a dignified great scientist couldn't even get into a delivery room. It's embarrassing to even talk about!
Forget it, why am I thinking about this.
Anyway, as long as Xiao Qi can inherit Ah Chu's IQ, that's fine!
...
April 15, Year XXXX.
The little guy's features have finally filled out!
His previously wrinkled skin has now become fair and tender, his little cheeks are chubby, and his eyes are big and bright.
He is really so cute!
He's finally not ugly anymore!
I knew it. How could the child of Ah Chu and me possibly be ugly?
Although Ah Chu is a bookworm, you can't find fault with his face; his features are handsome and his jawline is sharp.
Back then, I fell in love with him at first sight, totally fooled by that face of his~
As for me, that goes without saying!
With Miss Su's beauty, the people chasing me back then could line up from the south of the city to the north, but in the end, I just had to fall for a bespectacled bookworm. No one would believe it if I told them.
This child has inherited Ah Chu's IQ and my beauty. He will definitely not lack girls liking him in the future!
He's not even a hundred days old yet, and those eyes are already so beautiful!
Oh right, we finally decided on his name.
Ah Chu and I flipped through the dictionary for days.
He flipped through the dictionary so seriously, huddled under the desk lamp in the study, turning page after page, his glasses almost buried in the paper.
I asked him why he didn't just ask an AI. Aren't you an AI researcher? It could filter out thousands of good names for you in a second.
But Ah Chu said that a child's name cannot be chosen by AI. You have to flip through the dictionary yourself for it to have a sense of ceremony.
I laughed at him for being old-fashioned, but he didn't retort and just continued flipping through his dictionary.
This bookworm sometimes just has these inexplicable obsessions.
In the end, we settled on a very simple character.
A single character, Qi.
Fang Qi.
Qi means unique, wonderful, and extraordinary!
We hope he can become a special person! The most unique person in this world!
Ah Chu said that if he also wants to do research like us in the future, he will definitely be a more amazing researcher than him.
I said, he can't be that tired; he has to properly enjoy his childhood first.
Doing research is just too bitter!
Xiao Qi, if you can read this notebook in the future, you must remember!
Look at your dad, for that emotional core thing, sometimes he even forgets to eat, needing me to call and yell at him to remember.
Once I went on a business trip for two days, and when I came back, I found he had stayed in the lab for the entire weekend, eating only a single yolk pie over the two days!
This kind of thing must not be passed down to Xiao Qi in the future, otherwise he and my future daughter-in-law will both suffer.
But, maybe my future daughter-in-law will be into this type?
Then I'd have no objections, after all...
I'm into this type too!
Ah Chu's serious look is indeed the most handsome!
Xiao Qi, even if many girls like you in the future, you can only choose one, okay.
You can't become a playboy, otherwise...
Your mom will be the first to beat you up!

August 20, Year XXXX.
HUGE! GOOD! NEWS!
Today, Xiao Qi actually tried to stand up and walk!
He's only six months old! Six months!
Other people's children are still rolling around in bed at this time, at most crawling a bit!
But our Xiao Qi is already holding onto the edge of the sofa and unsteadily standing up!
Even though his two chubby little legs were still trembling, the expression on his little face was so serious!
He is a spitting image of his dad, looking like he's about to conquer some major scientific research problem!
So cute!
I squatted at the other end of the sofa and clapped my hands at him, and he actually let go of one hand holding the sofa and took a wobbly step toward me.
Just one step though, and then he plopped down onto the carpet on his butt, falling flat on his back, his two legs still kicking in the air a few times.
But he didn't cry. He even looked up at me and broke into a wide smile.
I was so happy at the time that I almost knocked over the cup on the coffee table!
I squatted down, scooped him up, and lifted him high in the air. He giggled in the air, his little hands and feet flailing about.
He really is so smart.
He always learns to move a bit earlier than other children!
Rolling over, crawling, all a step ahead, and now walking!
Last month we went to a friend's house. Her boy, who is two months older than Xiao Qi, could only scoot around in circles on the floor, while our Xiao Qi was already crawling at top speed and starting to tear the house apart!
My friend marveled at the time, saying how amazing Xiao Qi was. On the surface, I modestly said it was alright, but in my heart, I was so smug!
When Ah Chu came back in the evening and heard that Xiao Qi walked, oh, the excitement!
He threw his briefcase straight onto the sofa, squatted down, and started clapping his hands at Xiao Qi, muttering,
"Come on, Xiao Qi, take another step for Daddy to see!"
To our surprise, Xiao Qi actually understood!
He tried hard to stand up and take a step, but ended up falling on his butt again.
Ah Chu, however, was as thrilled as if he had just verified an experimental hypothesis!
So wonderful!
Even the recent gloom in his career seemed to be dispelled by this!
...Oh dear, why am I bringing up company matters again?
Never mind, never mind. This notebook is meant for recording life; I shouldn't mention those annoying things!
But...
Why does it feel like I've turned this into Xiao Qi's growth diary? I originally wanted to record my own life...
Whatever, Xiao Qi is a part of my life anyway, so there's nothing wrong with writing about him!
...
October 3rd, Year XXXX.
So happy!
Today, Xiao Qi spoke for the first time!
It wasn't some vague pronunciation like "Dada" or "Mama," it was "eat"!
Two crystal-clear syllables!
At eight months old, he was sitting in his high chair, wearing that light blue little bib.
I had just come out of the kitchen carrying his rice cereal, the little bowl still steaming, when he opened his little mouth and said two syllables in a milky, babyish voice:
"Eat—food—"
I almost dropped the spoon in my hand onto the floor!
I quickly dragged Ah Chu out of the study, saying, "Listen, listen, your son can talk!"
Ah Chu instantly perked up upon hearing this. He immediately squatted in front of Xiao Qi and said with a serious face,
"Xiao Qi, say Daddy."
Xiao Qi glanced at him, then glanced at the rice cereal in my hand.
He even seemed to roll his eyes at Ah Chu, then turned to look at me, opened his little mouth, and said with even more effort:
"Eat—food—!"
Ah Chu's expression was too funny!
I was standing to the side holding the rice cereal, almost dying of laughter.
Ah Chu stood up, pushed up his glasses, and said deadpan that the child took after me.
I said, "Nonsense, I gave birth to him. Who else would he take after?"
He replied,
"No, the way he just rolled his eyes at me is exactly the same as you."
Was he roasting me or complimenting me?!
However, Ah Chu and I are already used to it.
Our Xiao Qi has been a genius since birth, so it's perfectly normal for him to speak earlier than others!
I happily called my mom and recounted the story, adding a bit of embellishment.
As a result, my mom said,
"You didn't even know how to say 'Mama' until you were ten months old. You're far behind your son. Thank goodness he didn't inherit your IQ."
...Am I really her biological daughter?
Ah Chu was gloating on the side, and Xiao Qi was smacking his lips with a mouthful of rice cereal in his high chair. Not a single person comforted me!
Still, I'm happy!
...
November 7th, Year XXXX.
I've been a bit annoyed lately.
There has been some trouble with the company's affairs.
Ah Chu's research, on the other hand, is going very smoothly. The emotional core has made significant progress.
When I went to the lab to see it last time, the prototype was so amazing. Its reaction speed far exceeds that of a human, and its emotional recognition accuracy is comparable to ours.
But as for the promotional aspect I'm responsible for... sigh.
I still need to negotiate with quite a few investors.
Those old geezers are all so stubborn!
On the surface, they smile and act like they're easy to talk to, but in reality, they're as slippery as loaches!
My recent work consists of being dragged into meetings by various parties and listening to all sorts of headache-inducing conditions!
This isn't easy for me... Sitting in the conference room doesn't feel like we're dealing with cutting-edge technology at all; it feels more like haggling in a wet market.
Sometimes I think to myself, what Ah Chu and his team are researching is something that can change the future of humanity. Why do we have to bicker with these people over such trivial matters?
But I can only think about it; I can't say it out loud.
I'm the face of the company, so these words must rot in my stomach.
Tomorrow, I have to continue meeting with those old geezers...
Just thinking about it gives me a headache!
So annoying!
I just spent the whole night practicing my business smile in front of the mirror, but in the end, I still felt it looked too fake, like I was threatening someone.
...Oh dear!
No, no!
Why am I complaining in my notebook again!
I shouldn't write about this nonsense!
Let's talk about Xiao Qi!
Recently, he has been able to waddle unsteadily from one end of the living room to the other!
Although he falls after taking a few steps, he doesn't cry like other kids when he falls.
Sometimes he just stares blankly at his scraped knee, then looks up at me, as if he doesn't understand why he fell.
His little face gets all dirty, and there are red scrapes on his knees, but he stubbornly refuses to cry.
Ah Chu says this child mostly likely has a stubborn temper.
That won't do!
If our son is too stubborn, he's going to suffer when it comes to dating in the future!
But thinking about it, when Ah Chu, this nerd, first got together with me, he seemed pretty stubborn too, right?
He waited downstairs for me every day and wouldn't leave even when it rained.
Forget it!
You can't control genetics!
Anyway, Xiao Qi has been very cute lately too!
