Chen Cai nodded with satisfaction.

"How could he change so much? I'm not quite used to it." Fang Yunyun thought of the old man and felt uncomfortable.

Chen Cai said with a smile, "Isn't it obvious? It's all thanks to your husband. No matter how stubborn he was, he was eventually won over by my personal charm, right? This is good. We certainly don't want an old stick-in-the-mud. How boring would that be, right?"

Fang Yunyun didn't speak, only feeling something wasn't quite right, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

An angry shout interrupted the sweet moment between the two.

"Whose little brat is this! Where are the parents?"

They both turned their heads to see a dark-skinned villager pushing a child towards them. Looking closely, wasn't that their own son?

"What are you doing?" Fang Yunyun immediately got up and ran over, pulling her son to her side.

"What am I doing? You're his parents, right?" The villager stood with his hands on his hips.

"What's all the shouting about? Such beautiful scenery, you're ruining the mood." Chen Cai also walked over slowly.

The villager looked at him and sneered, "Your son trampled a whole patch of the flowers I planted! Come and see for yourselves!"

He pointed not far away. The couple looked and saw that indeed, there was a flower field, with a section near the roadside flattened and in disarray.

"Xiaoqun?" Fang Yunyun frowned, looking at her son.

Chen Xiaoqun said timidly, "It wasn't me..."

The villager almost laughed in anger. "I saw you with my own eyes, and you still say it wasn't you!" He pointed at Chen Xiaoqun.

But Chen Xiaoqun remembered the calmness his parents showed when they lied. His learning ability was extremely strong. "It really wasn't me. If you don't believe me, check the security cameras!"

Where would there be security cameras in a field?

Chen Cai crossed his arms. "Brother, you heard him. My son doesn't lie."

The villager was furious, pointing at him. "You, you, you..."

"You what? If you have proof, I'll pay. You don't, do you?" Chen Cai sneered. "You, planting flowers? You're really sullying such beautiful blooms. Instead of learning good things, you learn to scam people."

As soon as he finished speaking, he noticed several more villagers wearing straw hats walking over from the adjacent field, each holding a sickle.

Seeing his companions arrive, the villager who was fuming with anger finally spoke up. "It was this kid who did it. And you still want to deny it?"

Seeing the other side had more people, all holding tools, Chen Cai's voice weakened slightly. "So, so what if it was? What are a few flowers worth? Grown men like you, picking on a child."

"You, this person..." The villager was clearly not good with words.

Glancing at his son hiding behind him and his nervous wife, Chen Cai knew he couldn't back down, or he'd lose face.

"Same as before, show me the security footage. If there's footage, I'll pay you! If not, you're just a scammer! Country bumpkin!"

Suddenly, one of the villagers chuckled. "Hear that, Ergou? He wants you to check the cameras."

Ergou, already too angry to speak, had initially thought if the other party apologized and said a few nice words, he'd let it go. But he never expected them to be so unreasonable! In a fit of anger, the inarticulate Ergou directly punched Chen Cai. Chen Cai only saw stars and landed on his backside.

"Honey!"

"Dad!"

Coming to his senses, Chen Cai, for the sake of his pride, decided to fight back!

But he didn't expect the other man to be a much better fighter. Even without the other villagers lifting a finger, he was thoroughly beaten up.

Fang Yunyun watched her husband covering his head and getting beaten, terrified. "I'm calling the police! Stop it!"

Hearing this, Ergou pointed at Chen Cai. "You deserved it!"

Chen Cai didn't dare talk back. As they were about to leave, Ergou stretched out his hand again. "Pay up!"

Beaten up, Chen Cai was much more compliant. He immediately reached for his wallet—of course, it was his wife's wallet.

"Eleven plants. Three might survive, so you only pay for eight. Three hundred and twenty." Ergou fumbled in his pockets, borrowed some change from his companion, and handed the change to Chen Cai. Chen Cai hesitated before reaching out to take it, one hand still covering his head.

It wasn't until the family of three hurriedly packed their things and got in the car that Chen Cai regained his usual tone. "Just you wait, I'll call the police on you! And all of you!" He pointed at the villagers.

The villager who had chuckled earlier spread his hands. "Do you have proof? Or maybe you should check the cameras?"

Chen Cai was left speechless by this, his face instantly turning ugly. Just then, someone else shouted, "Hey, you! Stop!"

Chen Cai, frightened, slammed on the accelerator and fled the scene, leaving Ergou standing there dumbfounded. He was still holding the few trampled plants. Since they had paid, he should give them the flowers. Why did they run off?

He scratched his head.

The atmosphere in the car was very tense. Chen Cai felt he had lost all face. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. He even slammed the steering wheel hard. Luckily, Fang Yunyun kept trying to calm him down. Then, Chen Cai saw his sleeping son in the rearview mirror, and his anger flared up again.

"Chen Xiaoqun!"

Chen Xiaoqun was jolted awake by the thunderous roar.

"Don't think I don't know! You were the one who trampled those flowers! What else do you do besides cause trouble?" Chen Cai could only vent his anger on Chen Xiaoqun. Chen Xiaoqun went from confusion to fear, and finally started crying.

"Cry, cry, cry, that's all you know! You useless brat!"

Fang Yunyun looked at her husband and son with distress, momentarily at a loss for words.

Chen Xiaoqun looked at the father who was berating him, and the image of him being beaten up appeared in his mind. He was the useless one! He, Chen Xiaoqun, hadn't even been beaten up by classmates his own age!

The three returned home. Fang Zhiyi had already eaten and was leisurely watching TV. Seeing the family return, he greeted them with a smile. In a bad mood, Chen Cai went straight to the fridge, took out a can of beer, and started drinking. Fang Yunyun looked at her father before her and, in her heart, actually blamed today's misfortunes on him again. If he hadn't let Chen Xiaoqun go out with her and Chen Cai, this wouldn't have happened!

Fang Zhiyi didn't know her thoughts, but he beckoned to his grandson.

"What's wrong? Have you been crying? Tell Grandpa, who bullied you?"

Chen Xiaoqun looked fearfully at his father, whose face was dark. It was the first time in his life his father had yelled at him like that, and he was still shaken.

Fang Zhiyi only needed one glance to guess the general situation.

Sure enough, as soon as he stepped back, they couldn't keep up the act. What happened to the promised relaxed companionship in parenting?

That night, Fang Zhiyi listened to his aggrieved grandson recount the day's events. Of course, Chen Xiaoqun still denied trampling the flowers. In his version, the flowers fell over by themselves. And when he talked about his father getting beaten, he actually felt a sense of gritted-teeth satisfaction.

Fang Zhiyi was surprised for a moment, then understood. This child... might he just be born this way?

"Alright, Grandpa understands. You did nothing wrong. How about Grandpa gives you some pocket money tomorrow as a reward?"

Hearing "pocket money," Chen Xiaoqun's eyes lit up. "Grandpa! You're still the best to me!"
