The Blond Guy

From Qiu Ya's perspective, the moment the conductor grabbed the woman, it was as if her soul had been sucked right out of her. She slumped into her seat, completely motionless.

The man with the dyed yellow hair was stunned by this sight. He bent down to check on her, and upon realizing she wasn't faking it, he immediately reached out to pinch her philtrum to revive her. "Conductor! She's fainted! Is there a doctor on the train?"

But the conductor—the monster—stood motionless. In Ye Chuan's eyes, the creature had already devoured the woman. She was gone, leaving behind nothing but a pitch-black blob in her place.

"Guji, guji..." The monster flexed its tentacles and slowly lumbered away.

Yellow Hair stood there and pulled out his phone to call for help. However, there was absolutely no signal on the train. No matter how many times he tried to dial, it was useless.

"Is that lady going to be okay?" Qiu Ya asked, looking worried as she watched the scene unfold. "That yellow-haired thug is really too much!"

Ye Chuan didn't reply. He was puzzled. The woman had been consumed by the monster, yet the yellow-haired man was completely unharmed. The train rules forbade arguing, but perhaps only one person gets killed for the infraction?

He couldn't quite pin down the Guji monster's behavioral patterns. Given its ability to infinitely regenerate, Ye Chuan couldn't do much against it for the time being. Besides, the creature seemed to regard him as one of its own.

The atmosphere was strange. Yellow Hair kept trying to make calls, and eventually, he walked over to Ye Chuan and Qiu Ya. "Hello, do you have a phone? Mine has no signal. Could I borrow yours to make a call?"

He was unexpectedly polite. It was completely at odds with his thug-like appearance.

"M-my phone doesn't have a signal either," Qiu Ya stammered, clearly a bit afraid of the yellow-haired man. She pulled out her phone and waved it to show him; the screen indeed displayed "No Signal."

"That's a problem," the man muttered. "I can't reach anyone... and I'm stuck on this weird train."

He decided to leave the carriage, seemingly to look for the train staff. However, once he left, he didn't return.

Ye Chuan wasn't sure if the yellow-haired man had been killed by the rules or "Guji-ed" by the monster.

"I'm completely in the dark here," Ye Chuan sighed. There were too few clues about this train.

He decided to go out and take a look.

Ye Chuan stood up. Beside him, Qiu Ya asked curiously, "Little brother, where are you going?"

"To take a leak," Ye Chuan said without looking back.

"Do you need me to help you?"

"You..." Ye Chuan looked at Qiu Ya with disdain. Was there something wrong with this woman's brain? Even if he looked like a five or six-year-old, he wasn't at the age where he needed help going to the bathroom, was he?

Shaking his head, Ye Chuan left the carriage.

The layout of the other carriages was virtually identical, as if stamped from the same mold. Ye Chuan observed as he walked. Knowing that the train cars shifted randomly, he planned to walk all the way to the end in one go to see if he could find any valuable clues.

The air was thick with the stench of rot. Ye Chuan continued forward. After an indeterminate amount of time, he suddenly spotted a familiar figure ahead.

The Guji monster.

"Guji... guji... guji..." the monster gurgled. Ye Chuan noticed an arm dangling from its body; it seemed to be in the process of digesting something.

"Is that..."

Yellow Hair?

Clearly, he had violated the rules. The yellow-haired man hadn't escaped death after all. Acting alone was inherently a high-risk behavior.

"Kin... Gu-gu..." The monster noticed Ye Chuan. It squirmed towards him, the arm still dangling from its body, making for an exceptionally gruesome sight.

Ye Chuan frowned. Just as he was about to try and insta-kill the creature again, he felt something under his foot.

Hmm?

Ye Chuan bent down curiously and discovered a small booklet.

Flipping it open, he let out a surprised noise.

A police badge?

Whose was this?

Why was it here?

Ye Chuan examined it. When he saw the photo inside, he froze. It was a familiar face.

Yellow Hair!

"Yellow Hair is a..." Ye Chuan looked at the photo, then recalled the man's appearance. The ID didn't look fake.

So, the woman who had argued with him, that agitated woman... what was her identity?

Ye Chuan looked at the Guji monster in front of him. It squirmed, extending a hand towards him. "Guji... eat... for you... kin..."

Ye Chuan felt a wave of nausea.

Before he could speak, a voice came from the carriage behind him. "Ah, Miss Conductor, there you are."

Ye Chuan turned around and found Yellow Hair standing right behind him.

Huh?

Wasn't he eaten by the Guji?

Ye Chuan glanced at the arm on the Guji monster, then at Yellow Hair's arms. They were different.

"Excuse me, how long until the next stop? Is there no doctor on the train?" Yellow Hair asked the monster.

"Guji, guji~"

"Alright, I understand," Yellow Hair said. He seemed about to explain something and patted his pocket, only to find it empty.

"Huh?"

"Are you looking for this?" Ye Chuan handed the police badge to the man.

"Ah, yes! Thank you, little brother. I can't believe I dropped it. I'm so careless," Yellow Hair said.

Ye Chuan simply asked, "Are you... undercover?"

Given the man's outfit, Ye Chuan felt that being a plainclothes officer was the only reasonable explanation. Otherwise, who would dye their hair bright yellow and dress like a gangster while on duty?

"Yeah." Yellow Hair reached out and patted Ye Chuan's head. "Listen, kiddo, I'm on a very important mission."

"That woman is a criminal."

"But I couldn't just ignore her when she fainted... Huh, that's weird. Why can't I remember some things?"

After saying this, Yellow Hair turned and walked away.

Ye Chuan watched his retreating figure in silence.

"Guji... gu-gu..." The Guji monster beside Ye Chuan started making noises again. Its tentacles flailed, the disgusting slime nearly brushing against Ye Chuan's face.

"..." After a moment's thought, Ye Chuan decided to follow Yellow Hair.

He wondered if it would lead him back to the carriage he had just come from.

"Guji..." The monster followed him.

"Don't follow me," Ye Chuan commanded as soon as he noticed.

"Kin... okay..."

Upon hearing Ye Chuan's words, the monster waved its tentacles a few times and obediently stayed put.
