After seeing the spatial rift disappear, Ye Chuan teleported back to the house with the egg in hand. Bai Qianshuang and the others followed him inside, none of them particularly worried about the rift that had just appeared, given Ye Chuan’s strength.
"An egg?" Bai Qianshuang blinked her beautiful eyes, clearly not expecting Ye Chuan to return with an egg—and one that looked like it belonged to some kind of monstrous beast.
"It fell out of the rift just now." Ye Chuan patted the egg in his hand as if dribbling a basketball.
The egg wobbled slightly, its silent protest utterly ineffective.
"Keep shaking like that, and I’ll turn you into soup," Ye Chuan said offhandedly, instantly silencing the giant egg.
Huh. Surprisingly effective.
Perhaps Ye Chuan’s earlier display had left quite the impression on the young creature inside.
Childhood trauma?
"It’s a monster’s egg." Bai Qianshuang extended her hand, channeling spiritual energy, but detected nothing unusual.
"Yanran, take this egg to the Alliance for research. See if they can figure anything useful out of it," Ye Chuan said to Wang Yanran, who stood nearby.
He would’ve preferred to ask Ke Ning, but she clearly didn’t have the time—given her current state, Ye Chuan was genuinely afraid she might one day work herself to death at home.
Handing it over to the Alliance was the safest bet.
After all, he was the one pulling the strings behind the scenes.
"Alright." Wang Yanran hesitated slightly as she looked at the monstrous egg but nodded in agreement.
She wasn’t afraid of the egg causing trouble—she was just wondering how to fit something that big into a car.
[Keep it.]
Lilith’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
Ye Chuan’s fingers paused. He spoke again, "Actually, let’s keep the egg here for now. Don’t take it over."
Wang Yanran blinked, confused by the sudden change of heart, but she simply nodded. "Understood."
After a brief chat, Ye Chuan carried the egg back to his room and set it down.
"Lilith, why keep it?" he asked.
Lilith’s figure materialized, her petite body bathed in a faint purple glow, her twin pigtails floating slightly as she circled the egg.
"Caracor!" She extended her hand, chanting a spell as purple light spread from her palm, enveloping the strange egg.
A few seconds later, she withdrew her hand. "Mm… Just as I thought. Ye Chuan, keep it. It’ll be beneficial for you."
"Beneficial? How?" Ye Chuan asked. It was just an egg.
Good for his health if he ate it?
"It’s the egg of a void entity. I’m not sure which kind yet, but it’ll undoubtedly become a powerful asset for you." With that, Lilith dissolved into purple light and vanished.
Though her personality wasn’t exactly endearing, the help she provided Ye Chuan was no less than anyone else’s.
A void entity?
Another unfamiliar term. Ye Chuan was curious, but since Lilith insisted on keeping it, he didn’t press further.
With Lilith gone, Ye Chuan sat on the edge of his bed, studying the strange egg.
"You can understand me, can’t you?" he said.
The egg hesitated, as if afraid of him, then wobbled slightly in response.
"Good. Now go cook me two dishes. I haven’t eaten yet," Ye Chuan said, raising an eyebrow.
Egg: "?"
Of course, he was just joking. Ye Chuan chuckled. "Kidding. I’ll handle the cooking."
Egg: "…"
For some reason, Ye Chuan could almost feel the egg sigh in relief.
"Oh, right. The ingredients will be you. Egg-fried rice—hold the rice."
Egg: "?!!!"
"Also a joke."
Egg: "…"
The egg promptly toppled over, as if giving up entirely—practically screaming [Just kill me already] with its entire being.
"Look at you, can’t even take a joke," Ye Chuan sighed. "No manners."
Egg: "?"
I’m an egg! I’m an egg! I’m an egg! I’m an egg!
Watching the egg roll around on the floor, Ye Chuan kicked it aside. "Stay put. Break anything, and I’m patching it up with your shell."
The egg stopped rolling and huddled in the corner.
"Tch. That rift nearly wrecked my house, and I haven’t even settled the score yet," Ye Chuan muttered before stepping out of the room.
Just then, he heard the sound of a key turning at the front door. A familiar ponytailed girl walked in, her steps light as she immediately grabbed Ye Chuan’s hand.
"Chuan-Chuan, are you okay?"
It was Luo Xi. She’d been at home when the rift appeared, watching as Ye Chuan swiftly dealt with the two massive monsters that emerged.
"Of course I’m fine." Ye Chuan grinned as Luo Xi checked him over.
"I was so worried! That monster went rawr and shot a laser at you—scared me to death!" Luo Xi patted her ample chest in relief, then scrunched her nose adorably and mimicked the sound,
"Rawr! A huge monster, just like in those Godzilla movies! So scary!"
Lan Xiaoke nodded in agreement. "Yeah."
"Xiaoke, didn’t you die ages ago?" Bai Qianshuang asked.
Lan Xiaoke: "…"
"No matter how loud it rawrs, it won’t work on me," Ye Chuan laughed.
With magic immunity and a resurrection passive, he’d maxed out his survivability. Though, if he were being honest, pulling the Chaos Immortal Body in a single summon was all thanks to Luo Xi’s insane luck.
"Are your parents alright?" he asked.
"Mom and Dad are fine. They stayed inside after hearing the emergency broadcast." Luo Xi shook her head. Even though she knew how strong Ye Chuan was, seeing him stand alone against the rift and the monsters made her heart ache with worry.
In Luo Xi’s mind, not long ago, they were just college students.
Now they were fighting monsters.
"Good." Ye Chuan considered whether he should upgrade the house again—maybe even move Luo Xi’s parents in.
The house could expand infinitely. Adding a floor for them would be safer, and they wouldn’t interfere with each other’s lives.
"My parents would never agree to move in! We’re not even married yet!" Luo Xi huffed, hands on her hips.
But the moment she mentioned marriage, her face flushed. "Hehe."
The slip-up made her shy. She glanced around, only to find Bai Qianshuang and the others staring at her.
The atmosphere instantly turned awkward.
"Marriage…" Bai Qianshuang murmured, her gaze flickering as if recalling something.
She’d said something similar once before.
"Let’s cook first," Ye Chuan interjected, sensing the tension.
