Ye Chuan wondered if he was being pranked or if he had somehow stumbled into some hidden-camera reality show.
"I am Bai Qianshuang, from the Donghua Divine Continent, the chief disciple of the Jade Void Sect, one of the Three Supreme Sects." The woman sat on the bed, her voice soft but earnest as she explained her origins to Ye Chuan.
Ye Chuan stared at the expressionless woman—or rather, girl—before him. Her constant talk of being a cultivator and a chief disciple made him suspect there might be hidden cameras in the room, broadcasting his reactions to an amused audience.
Wasn’t this kind of prank popular these days? The kind where unsuspecting passersby were tricked for entertainment?
Rubbing his temples, Ye Chuan sighed as he looked at the impossibly beautiful girl in front of him.
"What kind of nonsense are you spouting? I don’t care what your production team is up to, but I’m calling the police," he said flatly.
"I speak no falsehood," she replied.
Ye Chuan scoffed, smirking. "Why keep up the act when I’ve already called you out? Weren’t you leaving earlier? What made you come back?"
Bai Qianshuang lowered her head slightly, a strand of hair slipping down to rest against her chest. Her eyes flickered faintly.
"This place… is too unfamiliar. And I sense no spiritual energy here."
The buildings outside were unlike anything she had ever seen. Not just that—even the clothes this man wore were completely foreign to her. Yet, for some reason, she could read the words on his garment:
[Agricultural Bank Credit Card]
Not that she understood what it meant.
The room fell into silence. Ye Chuan pulled out his phone, ready to dial the police, but then he glanced again at the girl sitting by his bed. She was quiet, her white robes stained with crimson blood, her demeanor cold yet somehow fragile with the bandages wrapped around her.
After a moment’s hesitation, he silently locked his phone screen. Seeing Bai Qianshuang so committed to her role, he decided to play along—for now.
"Got any proof of who you claim to be?"
"Proof…" Bai Qianshuang’s slender fingers twitched before she retrieved a bronze token embroidered with gold from her waist. "This is my sect’s identification token."
"I’m not asking for props," Ye Chuan rolled his eyes. "You said you’re a cultivator, right? Can you fly? Like, sword flight or something?"
Bai Qianshuang nodded. "Naturally."
Ye Chuan smirked at her immediate agreement. "Then do it."
"Do… it?" She blinked, confused, then glanced around the cramped room. "This space is too small."
"Yeah, sorry my place isn’t up to your standards," Ye Chuan deadpanned. The apartment wasn’t small, but the room certainly wasn’t spacious. "Fine, forget flying. Just make that sword float, and I’ll believe you."
Watching Bai Qianshuang hesitate, Ye Chuan almost laughed. If this was a prank show, shouldn’t he try to make it entertaining?
Maybe if this girl made it big someday, she’d toss him a thank-you card.
[Thanks to you, the show’s a hit. Here’s a million—spend it however you like.]
[Let’s not stay in touch.]
With her looks, she had a real shot at fame. At the very least, her acting was flawless—no cracks in her performance whatsoever.
But the next second, Ye Chuan froze.
Bai Qianshuang raised a hand, forming a seal, and the sword beside her began to glow, lifting into the air.
"Huh?!"
Snapping out of his daze, Ye Chuan rushed over to the floating sword. He waved his hands around it, checking for invisible wires, then bent down to inspect the blade for any drone-like mechanisms.
Just as he leaned in, the glow vanished—and the sword dropped straight onto his face.
"Ow, what the—?!"
The metallic clang echoed as the sword hit the floor. Ye Chuan clutched his nose, wincing. "Damn, that hurt!"
He whipped his head toward Bai Qianshuang, but she remained expressionless, hands resting on her knees, her eyes faintly apologetic. "My apologies. I… ran out of spiritual energy."
Ye Chuan stood up, shaken. At least the flat of the blade had hit him—if it had been the edge, his face would’ve been ruined.
"How did you do that just now?"
"Sword Control Art," Bai Qianshuang answered.
Ye Chuan: "…"
Was she… telling the truth?
Seriously?
But that floating sword defied logic. No wires, no drones—just pure levitation.
"Can you do it again?" Ye Chuan asked.
"I… can." Bai Qianshuang formed the seal once more—but this time, a thin trail of blood trickled from the corner of her lips.
"Wait, hold on—you’re bleeding?!"
"It’s nothing." As she spoke, the sword on the floor trembled, clinking as it struggled to rise.
"Nothing my ass! You’re bleeding more! Stop, don’t force yourself—are you trying to die in my apartment?!" Ye Chuan panicked, waving his hands to stop her.
"Do you believe me now?" Bai Qianshuang wiped the blood from her mouth with her sleeve.
"Yeah, fine, I believe you," Ye Chuan conceded, though his mind buzzed with questions.
"Good." With that, Bai Qianshuang’s head drooped, and she collapsed onto the bed, motionless.
Ye Chuan: "…"
"Hey! What do you mean, passing out again?!"
……
"What kind of mess is this?" After settling Bai Qianshuang properly on the bed, Ye Chuan wiped her face with a warm towel. She was still unconscious but didn’t seem in immediate danger. Calling an ambulance was out of the question—he couldn’t afford it, and he was starting to believe her story. If doctors found something abnormal and sent her to a lab for dissection, the fallout would be disastrous.
As he stood there, wondering what to do next, his phone buzzed.
A notification popped up.
