Encounter the Beast

On the map, there were almost no red dots to be seen, only purple ones.

Xiao Fan knew that the purple dots represented mutated beasts.

There were also some mutated beasts around Yan Mountain, such as mutated cats and dogs.

If the Tibetan mastiff he had encountered at the hospital could be considered as having caused Xiao Fan some trouble, the mutated beasts around Yan Mountain basically did not cause any trouble. In front of Xiao Fan's numerous Red Alert soldiers, any mutated beast that dared to appear would definitely be beaten into a sieve.

As they advanced, the mutated beasts on the map grew more and more numerous, densely covering the area in patches.

Moreover, the purple dots here were of a deeper color compared to those of the mutated cats and dogs, which meant they were likely to be ferocious beasts.

Xiao Fan considered it over and over again but did not beat a retreat. Although there were many mutated beasts here, compared to the sea of zombies in the city area, they were still relatively few in number. If they did not take this path, they would have even less of a chance on other routes.

After passing through the green belt that served as an isolation zone in the wildlife park and walking along a small path outside the park, Xiao Fan's group arrived at the wire fence.

As soon as they reached the wire fence, the engineer Ai Yin said to Xiao Fan, "Commander, this wire fence seems to be electrified."

Ai Yin opened his backpack, fished out a voltage detector pen from it, and touched the fence. It did light up, confirming it was an electric fence.

Xiao Fan looked at Ai Yin in surprise and asked, "How did you know it was electrified?"

Afterwards, all the Red Alert soldiers streamed in one by one, passing through the hole.

After entering the zoo grounds and walking across a stretch of lawn, they came to the park's interior roads ahead.

These were cement roads, winding all around, with beautiful scenery.

At an intersection ahead, there was a signpost indicating the directions to the various zoo areas as well as their current location.

Xiao Fan took a glance at the signpost at the intersection and felt relieved because this was the herbivore zoo area.

Since they were herbivores, it should be relatively safer.

Now that they had arrived here, there was no need to keep staring at the radar all the time because their eyes could spot wherever the mutated beasts appeared and moved about.

Soon, Xiao Fan discovered the first mutated beast.

It was a tall zebra grazing on something, eating very attentively and seemed to not have noticed Xiao Fan's party's arrival.

Xiao Fan didn't sense any danger either and was about to move on when Xiao Tian beside him suddenly stopped and kept growling softly.

Xiao Fan also halted and took a closer look at that zebra. He couldn’t help but gasped –

That zebra was not grazing at all, but gnawing on a corpse!

It was unclear whether the corpse was human or zombie, but the zebra’s mouth was full of blood. White bones had reached its mouth and it crunched the bones down like chewing candy, crushing them in a few bites.

Perhaps sensing the commotion behind it, the zebra stopped moving.

It suddenly whipped its head around, eyes glowing crimson red!

"Neigh~~!"

This huge stallion let out a long shriek, and astonishingly abandoned the corpse in front of it and charged straight at Xiao Fan’s group!

In its eyes, fresh blood and flesh were probably far more delicious than the rotting corpse. Mutated creatures had already become extremely ferocious!

The Red Alert soldiers beside Xiao Fan were about to raise their guns, but Xiao Fan immediately stopped them.

"Don't shoot. Don't shoot here unless it's absolutely necessary."

Glancing at the dense clusters of purple dots on the radar, Xiao Fan knew they couldn't start firing. He ordered Xiao Tian and the other two military dogs to go intercept.

The three military dogs, with Xiao Tian being a two-star and the other two one-stars each, hunted like a pride of lions. Xiao Tian confronted the zebra head-on while the other two dogs flanked the zebra from the sides.

As the zebra opened its large mouth to bite Xiao Tian, Xiao Tian deftly dodged it. The two-star military dog’s abilities were extremely formidable and its movements were even faster than that of ordinary mutated beasts.

With the zebra repeatedly failing to bite Xiao Tian while getting several vicious bites on its hindquarters by the other two dogs, it kept bleating in pain.

The dogs’ white fangs were nothing to scoff at and each bite tore off a large chunk of flesh. As it tried to turn to attack the dogs behind it, Xiao Tian immediately seized the opportunity to pounce forward, biting down on the zebra’s neck with its sharp teeth and exerting force. Fresh blood instantly gushed out from its neck.

The other two dogs also fiercely leapt onto the zebra, pushing it to the ground while viciously tearing into it. Though the zebra struggled desperately, its resistance grew steadily weaker over time.

Xiao Fan waved his hand and several soldiers rushed over immediately to assist, stabbing the zebra with their tri-blade bayonets and speeding up its death.

The zebra finally succumbed and crashed to the ground, quickly losing its life essence.

"Transport the zebra’s corpse to the truck."

Mutated beasts’ meat was top-notch stuff. The Tibetan mastiff from back then had been completely consumed, with Xiao Fan eating the most. He felt that his physical fitness had improved significantly within the last few days.

Four burly Red Alert warriors jointly carried off the zebra’s corpse to the trucks parked outside the park.

As for Xiao Fan's group, they continued advancing. According to Xiao Fan's plan, he had no intention of disturbing too many mutated beasts, and would quietly traverse through the park.

Examining the map, he found no zombies here, which confirmed one of Xiao Fan's speculations – that mutated beasts and zombies would fight one another but under what circumstances and to what extent still remained to be observed.

Ahead, a few more mutated beasts sped over really fast.

Glancing over, Xiao Fan saw that they were several blue sheep.

Being smaller built than the zebra, the blue sheep should not be too difficult to handle.

Just as he was about to organize an interception, Xiao Fan suddenly noticed that there were more mutated beasts chasing after the blue sheep.

Dozens of eyes glowing bloodshot red raced swiftly in pursuit. Clearly, these blue sheep were not charging at them but were being chased down by that pack of predators behind them!

They were wolves - grassland scavengers!

Although the smaller wolves had mutated to about the size of an average Tibetan mastiff now, there were over 30 of them!

Originally going after the blue sheep, the wolves abruptly caught sight of Xiao Fan's group and their eyes lit up instantly, continuously emitting muffled howls from their mouths. Forgetting about the blue sheep now, they madly hurtled towards Xiao Fan's party!
