Stole a Bunch of Things

The platform began to descend slowly.

The dozen or so people simultaneously assumed defensive stances with remarkable tacit understanding, including Director Jin, who had disguised himself and infiltrated their ranks.

Captain Zheng’s gaze swept inch by inch across the hall below.

Beneath the enormous red gemstone waterfall chandelier lay a hall that was more spacious than usual.

For some reason, very few horrifying creatures had come today. Only a sparse handful could be seen in the hall.

Even more than half of the counters were empty.

[Fog] left Director Jin’s body and drifted back and forth in midair several meters away from them.

Zhu Yan had no intention of waiting until the platform reached the ground before attacking these people.

When the Hunter launched an ambush, the whole point was to make it thrilling and unexpected.

The platform had no railing. If he chopped off Director Jin’s hand in a place like this, wouldn’t that be exciting?

[Fog] floated in the air, quickly estimating the platform’s rate of descent and its current height.

Given Zhu Yan’s efficiency, after Director Jin’s hand was severed, the group would still be at least twenty meters above the ground.

At the height of a six-story building, only a handful of people would dare to jump, right?

Captain Zheng stared gravely downward and extended one arm to shield Director Jin firmly behind him.

“No sign of the target so far.”

Captain Zheng tilted his ear slightly, listening carefully to every faint sound around them.

He could hear the nervous heartbeats and shallow, hurried breathing of the people nearby. The only things he couldn’t hear were the rush of wind signaling an approaching presence or the sound of something climbing along the walls.

“Everything is normal for now.” Captain Zheng lowered his voice. “Don’t let your guard—”

Bang!

A gunshot suddenly erupted, replacing the unfinished “down” of “don’t let your guard down.”

An uproar instantly broke out on the tiny platform. Zhu Zeyu heard Yang Zhanbai roar beside his ear.

“The Hunter!”

Everything happened far too quickly.

At the critical moment, Zhu Zeyu lunged toward Director Jin and shouted, “Look out!”

Bang!

The Hunter fired a second shot.

Director Jin happened to be shoved aside. He felt the bullet graze past his body, though he had no idea whom it struck.

“Quick! Use your skills!”

“Help! Somebody help me!”

Someone slipped off the platform. At the last possible moment, they had no choice but to cling desperately to the slick edge with one hand.

The Hunter seemed to have appeared out of thin air on the platform. After brutally shoving the other players toward the perimeter, it vanished again.

In an instant, skills and colored aerosols flew chaotically through the air. Those at the edge had no choice but to spread their arms to maintain their balance, while others bent down and tried to pull their companions back up.

Director Jin reacted with astonishing speed.

He drew the gun from his waist and tried to use his other hand to disengage the safety.

But when he swung his left arm, he abruptly realized something and let out a furious roar.

“Ahhhhhhh…!”

“My hand! Where’s my hand?!”

Zhu Zeyu clutched his lower abdomen tightly.

During the recent “standoff” with the Hunter, he, Yang Zhanbai, and Guan En had all been wounded.

The blade had viciously slashed across Guan En’s chest, grazing Yang Zhanbai’s arm in the process. Then, as if seeking revenge on Zhu Zeyu, it had cut a wound of moderate depth across his abdomen.

Zhu Yan was drenched in cold sweat from the pain.

But he absolutely could not let his guard down now—

There could be no shortage of Bone Coins in Director Jin’s hand.

He still had to hurry to the Moonwalk Hall and move the things inside somewhere else!

[Fog] remained invisible as it quickly headed toward another exit.

On the platform, Captain Zheng was utterly horrified.

“Director Jin!”

Director Jin was still wearing his helmet and crouching on the ground.

He clutched his left wrist tightly, groaning in pain as he tried to suppress his cries.

Blood pooled beneath him and gathered into a tiny stream. Miss Doppelganger couldn’t help swallowing again and again.

Captain Zheng roared at her, “Stop the lift! I said stop the lift!”

The lift was only a few meters above the ground.

Miss Doppelganger didn’t give him the slightest bit of respect. “At this height, sir, what difference would stopping it make?”

“You can stay where you are with this injured eater… gentleman until the lift comes to a complete stop.”

Miss Doppelganger swallowed thickly.

“I’ll be responsible for sending you back up.”

“You—”

Captain Zheng badly wanted to split it in two, but he knew perfectly well that this was not the time to lose his temper.

He quickly swept his gaze around, checking the condition of his team members.

The others were more or less fine…

But Guan En, Yang Zhanbai, and Zhu Zeyu were clearly in a very serious condition.

Guan En had a gaping wound across his chest, deep enough to expose his ribs.

Yet Guan En was the calmest of the injured. He took out a bottle of high-grade potion from his ring and poured it over the wound. Then, despite his pallid face, he crisply gestured to Captain Zheng.

“I can hold on.”

Zhu Zeyu could tell that he was forcing himself to speak.

Unfortunately, the potion in his hand was not of a high enough grade. Against a level-thirteen slash wound, its effect was practically negligible.

Even after using two bottles, the wound had barely healed halfway.

“I’ll send Director Jin up first. Is the accompanying doctor here?”

Captain Zheng nodded. “Yes.”

His gaze swept over Yang Zhanbai and Zhu Zeyu. “Captain Guan, what about these two students?”

Yang Zhanbai’s injuries were the lightest. His left upper arm was soaked through with bright red blood. Although his lips were pale, he still had enough strength to support Zhu Zeyu beside him.

Zhu Zeyu’s condition, however, was truly dire.

The clothing over his shoulder blade was scorched, clearly indicating a gunshot wound.

The uniform across his abdomen had been deeply slashed open, and a large patch of fabric was darkened with moisture.

Yang Zhanbai bit open the cap of the potion Guan En had handed over and poured it onto Zhu Zeyu’s abdomen.

“What do you mean, what about them?” He immediately started arguing. “Of course we’re taking Zhu Zeyu up! Captain Zheng, look at him! Can’t you see he’s practically dying?”

Zhu Yan wanted to sew Yang Zhanbai’s mouth shut.

“They’re not going anywhere. I know you’re suspicious of them, but their injuries need to be treated first, don’t they?”

On the puppet’s body, the high-grade potion did not have the slightest effect.

Zhu Zeyu could only grip the [Storage Silver Ring], which had originally belonged to Director Jin, tightly in his hand. He activated the ability [I Absolutely Have to Take Advantage of This Bargain], listening to the chimes announcing the arrival of items and supplies as they eased his pain.

“Please note: The items you obtain will automatically be placed in the Hunter’s [Storage Silver Ring].”

“Ding! Congratulations! You have obtained the special disguise item [Corpse Stick’s Oil].”

“Ding! Congratulations! You have obtained the special item [Believer’s Entry Ticket].”

“Ding! Congratulations! You have obtained the supplies [A Feast Personally Prepared by the Head Chef]!”

“Ding! Congratulations! You have obtained the supplies [Five Sets of Haute Couture Suits] and [Five Crates of Various Fresh Air-Freighted Fruits]!”

“Ding! Congratulations! You have obtained the special item [The Eye of the Abyss’s Phone Number].”

“Ding! Congratulations! You have obtained the special item [Telephone Booth Usage Voucher].”

…

Zhu Zeyu’s brows drew tightly together. Even Captain Zheng couldn’t help feeling sorry for him when he saw this.

He looked to Guan En for a decision. Guan En responded decisively.

“The injured go up first. The rest of the procedures will proceed as usual. I’ll arrange for the other students to come down one at a time.”

“Captain Zheng, take your people and stay in the Hall of Mourning. Check whether there are any other exits.”
