Don't Chase a Poor Bear

Su Yang’s pupils contracted as he sprinted madly after the brown bear.

He knew the consequences would be unthinkable if the bear reached the others. Given his current combat ability, taking on this bear alone was already a daunting challenge. Liu Bo and Ye Wan, who were further ahead, were far less capable in a fight—especially since Ye Wan was still unconscious. In this situation, the only way to stop the bear was to team up with Liu Bo. Maybe then they’d stand a sliver of a chance.

Su Yang soon spotted Liu Bo hiding behind a large tree in the distance—they hadn’t run far.

As he chased, he shouted at the top of his lungs, “Fatty!!! Grab something to fight with!!”

Liu Bo and the others had already noticed the bear charging toward them at terrifying speed.

Everything happened too fast. He’d just woken Pan Ning up and hadn’t had time to rouse the others before the bear suddenly changed direction and barreled straight for him.

Bears had an innate, overwhelming presence that made even the strongest humans feel small. Liu Bo was no exception—despite being among the more formidable fighters, his legs turned to jelly at the sight of the beast.

But hearing Su Yang’s call, he had no choice but to steel himself.

He turned to Pan Ning and yelled, “Pan Jie, run! Find somewhere to hide!”

Without waiting for a response, Liu Bo scrambled to his feet, desperately scanning the area for anything that could serve as a weapon.

In those few seconds, Su Yang had closed the gap behind the bear.

With a powerful leap, he lunged forward like a diving dragon, his hands clamping onto the thick fur of the bear’s right hind leg.

With a sharp thud, he slammed into the ground, dragged along as the bear continued its charge, sending leaves and debris flying in all directions.

Veins bulged on Su Yang’s neck, his face flushing red with exertion.

“Hah!!”

With a roar, he adjusted his stance, planting his feet firmly into the earth as he yanked back with all his might.

The bear’s sprint came to an abrupt halt, its massive frame jerking to a stop under Su Yang’s sheer strength.

Meanwhile, Liu Bo was still frantically searching for a weapon, spinning in circles.

Su Yang strained against the bear’s weight, his grip unrelenting. “Fatty!!! Hurry up and help!!”

“Yeah, yeah, coming!” Liu Bo shouted back, finally spotting a rock in the grass a few meters away—one three or four times the size of a regular brick.

He snatched it up and bolted toward Su Yang.

“Yang-ge, I’m here! Hold on!”

“Aim for its head!!” Su Yang barked.

“Got it!”

Liu Bo positioned himself a couple of meters in front of the bear, locking onto its skull. His grip tightened around the rock as he wound up and hurled it with all his strength.

Whoosh—

The stone shot through the air.

BAM!!

In less than a second, the jagged rock smashed into the bear’s face, eliciting a pained howl.

Su Yang nearly lost his grip as the bear thrashed, but he clamped down harder, his hands like iron vices around its leg.

Seeing the hit land, Su Yang grinned. “Again!!”

“On it!” Liu Bo, now emboldened, dashed to retrieve the rock before circling back for another throw.

BAM!!

ROOOAR—

This time, the rock struck the bear’s most vulnerable spot—its nose.

The beast flailed wildly, trying to shake Su Yang off, but he clung like a stubborn burr, refusing to let go no matter how much it twisted and kicked.

That said, Su Yang wasn’t exactly having an easy time either.

This was a four-to-five-hundred-pound grizzly. Without his healing ability, he’d have been exhausted long ago, flung aside like a ragdoll.

But his regenerative skills were borderline cheating—not only did they mend his injuries in real time, but they also kept his stamina from depleting.

As long as he held on, Liu Bo could whittle the bear down bit by bit.

“Fatty, keep going!! Try hitting its eyes this time!!”

“Roger!” Liu Bo scooped up the rock again, bending low before charging forward.

The bear, now wary, turned its head away, desperate to flee.

Liu Bo, thoroughly enjoying his newfound role as bear-beater, laughed. “Hey, mutt! Take this!!”

He darted around to the bear’s front and launched the rock.

CRACK!!

ROOOAAARR—

Though he missed the eyes, the rock struck the already-bloodied nose again, splitting it open further. Crimson streaks ran down the bear’s dark fur.

Three solid hits had left the bear dazed. If it could talk, it might’ve whimpered, “Let me go, man! I’ll leave, I swear!”

Honestly, the bear seemed genuinely terrified now, thrashing with all its might to escape.

But Su Yang refused to loosen his grip. Even if the bear was retreating, he couldn’t risk it—what if it turned around and mauled them the second he let go?

“Damn, Fatty, you got aim! Keep at it!! Finish this thing!”

“Hell yeah!”

Liu Bo’s earlier fear had completely evaporated, replaced by adrenaline-fueled excitement.

Su Yang’s strength was nothing short of supernatural in his eyes—how could a man physically restrain a raging bear?

At this point, his respect for Su Yang was through the roof.

“Yang-ge, you’re a freaking beast! Don’t let go!!”

With another shout, Liu Bo hurled the rock straight at the bear’s face.

But this time, the bear jerked its head aside at the last second—dodging the projectile.

The rock, however, kept flying…

…right toward Su Yang.

Su Yang’s eyes widened. He released the bear and lunged to the side just in time.

“What the hell, man?! You aiming for me??”

Before Liu Bo could even apologize, the bear seized its chance. It bolted without a second glance, vanishing into the trees.

“Shit! It got away!” Liu Bo yelled, ready to give chase.

Su Yang grabbed his arm. “Stop! You really wanna go after it now?”

“But—”

“No buts. You never chase a wounded bear. Damn, I’m wiped. Go wake the others.”

“Seriously, how’d they sleep through all this?”

Su Yang panted, then added, “Get them up and let’s move!!”

“On it!”

From behind a distant tree, Pan Ning and the other two—Meng Qianyu and Tang Ziyun—emerged, having witnessed the entire ordeal.

Pan Ning rushed to Su Yang’s side, her face etched with worry. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine. No big deal.”

She swallowed hard. “You… never mind. Qianyu, Ziyun, help me wake the others. We need to go.”

“R-right!” Meng Qianyu and Tang Ziyun still looked shell-shocked.

A minute later, the remaining five unconscious members of their group were shaken awake.

Before anyone could ask questions, Su Yang and the others hauled them to their feet, ushering them swiftly out of the woods.

An hour later, the group of ten finally emerged from the woods and returned to the clearing they had passed earlier.

"This place still isn't safe. Let's move quickly. Liu Bo, Ye Wan, you two take the lead. I'll cover the rear."

"Got it!" Liu Bo responded promptly, striding ahead of the group.

Though Ye Wan didn’t understand what was happening, she didn’t ask questions and followed Liu Bo to the front to help guide the way.

Meanwhile, Su Yang stayed at the very back, keeping watch in case the brown bear circled back for a surprise attack.

Fortunately, nothing else unexpected happened on their way back.

After walking for nearly another hour, they finally left the dense woods where they had first entered and stepped onto a vast, beautiful meadow.

Only then did Su Yang finally let out a breath of relief.

"Phew!"

"What the hell happened back there?" Zhang Ziming and Ji Bo could no longer contain their curiosity.

The two rushed over to Su Yang and pressed him for answers.

Su Yang waved a tired hand. "Let’s talk back at the campsite first."
