The Order Era, Year 1139.
Another brand-new day.
Last night, Xia Lun had shared a few drinks with Liyana before spending a wonderful night with Aina.
Half-awake, Xia Lun felt something warm and soft brush against his cheek, moist as morning dew lightly settling on a flower petal.
When he opened his eyes, Aina’s delicate face came into view. Her crimson eyes glimmered with affection in the morning light, while her silver-white hair spilled across the pillow like silk woven from moonlight.
“Ah… Did I wake you, Xia Lun? I’m so sorry…” Aina’s voice was tinged with the drowsy sweetness of someone who had only just woken up, and she sounded a little apologetic.
“What are you doing?”
“As you can see, I’m kissing your cheek, Xia Lun.” Aina pressed her lips to his cheek again and again, leaving several kisses behind. “You’re just too cute…”
“You should use words like handsome or dashing to describe me, not cute,” Xia Lun corrected her, reaching out to gently brush aside the stray hair falling across her forehead.
“Whatever you say.” Aina gave a slight pout, too lazy to argue with Xia Lun over something so trivial.
“Besides, you shouldn’t only be kissing my cheek,” Xia Lun added.
“Oh? You’re quite energetic this early in the morning. Honestly, you’re impossible…”
A blush immediately spread across Aina’s cheeks, like a rose just beginning to bloom.
She gathered her loose hair into a ponytail behind her, baring her graceful neck. Then she parted her lips slightly and began to lean down.
“What are you doing?” Xia Lun drew back a little, stopping Aina’s movement with some alarm.
A sly glint flashed through Aina’s eyes. Suddenly, she pounced on him again and sealed his lips with hers, as though she intended to freeze time itself in that moment.
After a long while, their lips parted.
“Of course I’m going to kiss you. What else did you think I was going to do?” Aina teased, extending a finger to toy with Xia Lun’s chin. “If you really want me to, I suppose I could make an exception…”
Without changing his expression, Xia Lun reached out, slipped both arms beneath Aina’s armpits, and gently lifted her away like an unruly kitten, setting her down to one side.
“It’s time to get up.”
“Oh.” Aina stuck out her tongue. Her husband really was far too conservative.
Under Xia Lun’s watchful gaze, Aina very seriously changed out of her light white silk nightdress and put on her undergarments.
Because a major battle could break out at any time… Aina usually wore only this nightdress after taking a bath, without a stitch of clothing beneath it.
It was actually quite comfortable to dress that way, though it did tend to ruin a few nightdresses.
Still, the sensation of tearing the nightdress was wonderful, so it was worth it.
Xia Lun yawned. Aina immediately came over to help him get dressed. Her nimble fingers fastened his buttons, occasionally “accidentally” brushing across his chest or lightly rubbing his neck while pretending to straighten his collar.
“By the way, it seems that the False Truth perished last night. You don’t have to worry about that thing trying to dig out your eyeballs anymore.” As she adjusted Xia Lun’s collar, Aina spoke casually, as if she had just remembered something.
“Huh?” Caught off guard, Xia Lun let out a strange sound much like a blood bat.
“I sensed that thing’s aura disappear while we were busy with more important matters.” Aina couldn’t help letting out a soft laugh. Then, slightly embarrassed, she continued, “I was so exhausted afterward that I went to rest first, so I forgot to tell you at the time… I think you’re to blame for that. Your stamina is practically monstrous.”
Aina looked up and glared at Xia Lun reproachfully, puffing out her cheeks.
“Yes, yes, of course,” Xia Lun replied perfunctorily. He rubbed Aina’s head, dispelling her feigned anger, and then pressed her for more details. “So how did it die? Who killed it?”
Xia Lun knew that the abilities controlled by the False Truth were extremely troublesome. As long as it truly wanted to hide, even Aina would have had difficulty eliminating it completely.
While smoothing out the wrinkles in Xia Lun’s sleeve, Aina explained, “It seems to have been tricked by the Fallen Years. The Fallen Years sent it back into the past, where it was killed by the Goddess of the Past.”
“The Fallen Years?” Xia Lun had heard Aina mention that name before.
“An ancient evil god who commands the power of time. Among the evil gods beyond the many worlds, it possesses one of the most troublesome abilities.” Aina began to explain. “I heard that it repeatedly turned back time in an attempt to undo its regrets. But time cannot be reversed, and what has already happened cannot be changed. Through endless cycles of reincarnation, it gradually forgot its original goal and lost all of its former memories…”
“That sounds like a truly tragic story,” Xia Lun remarked.
“The Fallen Years has always belonged to the neutral faction among the evil gods… But this time, it actually sabotaged the False Truth and even took the initiative to curry favor with me.” Aina finished what she was doing and looked rather pleased with her work.
“Oh?” Xia Lun raised an eyebrow. “Could it be plotting something?”
After all, it was an evil god. Xia Lun’s concern was perfectly reasonable.
“But my guess is that the Fallen Years initially intended to use the False Truth’s abilities to try to alter the Truth of Time and accomplish its unfinished goal…” Aina analyzed the situation seriously. “But the False Truth clearly couldn’t do that, and it was erased by the Goddess of the Past instead. So that fellow probably switched sides at the last moment because it was afraid I would target it for helping the False Truth. Don’t worry. Although it’s very powerful… it’s no match for me. It can’t threaten our world.”
“Aina…”
“Hmm?”
“You really are amazing.” Xia Lun lightly tapped Aina on the nose.
Only she could deal with those evil gods so casually—and be so deeply feared by the others.
“Of course I am.” Aina lifted her chin proudly. “So you’d better listen to me, Xia Lun.”
“Or else?”
“Or else I’ll beat you up.” Aina answered fiercely, waving her little fist. But the smile in her eyes betrayed her true feelings.
“Would you really?”
“Xia Lun… Your skin is getting thicker and thicker.” Aina couldn’t help sighing as she reached out and gently pinched his cheek.
“So, would you really?” Xia Lun couldn’t help asking again.
“Hmph. Of course I wouldn’t.” Aina finally surrendered. She lightly pounded her fist against Xia Lun’s chest before burying her face in his arms.
The sunlight in the room gradually brightened, gently enveloping their figures. Xia Lun wrapped his arms around Aina and placed a kiss in her hair, savoring the peace and happiness of that moment.
